    temp question

I have two identical computers with intel q4 cpus. I was messing around with the water cooling system on one and didn't put it back together correctly, so the cpu overheated and the computer shut down. I can not get that computer to start at all now. I know the CPU is good because I swapped CPUs between the two and the other machine started with the overheated CPU. But, the computer won't start with the non-overheated CPU. The lights on the motherboard come on, so I know it is getting power, but I don't know if there is some sort of relay that I need to wait for it to reset. I reset the bios and still nothing.

    any suggestions?

I am going to let is sit over nite and see what happens in the morning.

    thanks

I'd completely power it down and leave the psu cable out overnight. Does the non-overheated cpu work in the over-heated board? Maybe you cooked the socket?

I can't get the other computer to start at all. The fans power up for a brief second and then go off. I swapped power supplies too, and they are both good too.

I don't know if I've ever heard of it, but maybe you cooked the socket. I can't imagine anything else taking a dump if only the CPU over heated... but bad socket=no cpu=no post

still nothing...just a quick fan on then off. I have to unplug the power supply in order to power on. I seems like there is something that is not resetting on the motherboard all the way, but I can't figure out what it is.

I have actually had good experiences with gigabyte and MSI, but this Asus board is driving me crazy. I have three Asus boards at the house and two are dead. I have an MSI that has been running for almost 8 years. I have still never had anything like this happen. It is almost like a relay switch on the board won't reset. I even swapped batteries, but I will take the battery out for an hour and see what happens
