OCZ Vertex 2 and Agility 2 with 25nm Flash MLC

OCZ should be launching its new Vertex 2 and Agility 2 SSDs soon. With the previously unavailable capacities (for OCZ) of 80, 160 and 320, these models combine the SandForce SF-1200 controller with 25nm Flash MLC, probably from IMFT (Intel / Micron).....

If the Price difference is only 5% in favor for the 25nm = No buy from me! When are the SF-2000 coming out?

Hmm low capacity makes me wonder about all the rumors for significantly lowering cost with these 25nm flash.

Smaller process has less write cycles, so more spare area is required to keep the same endurance (quite a lot larger), hence you need more NAND for the same usable capacity.
But 5% difference seems ridicolous, it's like they need almost 2x the NAND :P

OCZ is known to launch products before anybody else with an included rip-off price. It is a business practice, nothing wrong with that. The price will drop as soon as more companies are offering the same, expect 50%. No reason buying this over the 34nm if prices are not much lower.

together with major in the field beta testing done by early adopters and very high failure rates
no thanks i'll stick to samsung or intel, at least they know how to make controllers so drives don't break every 1-2 years like indilinx and sandforce drives and for that i'm happy to wait 1 year longer to get a rock solid product at the same performance level with higher real world performance (SF and indilinx suck in real world tests)

    The question is, when?
    And what about SF2?

gah sf 1200, over it already , bring on some new tech!

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

Are firmware updates still a headache? If they are as annoying as ever, I'll move away from OCZ. I've had enough AHCI/IDE boot issues w/ my drive.
BP ruined my dinner and my region. (yep, I'm still pissed!)

just stay away from indilinx and sandforce drive, they are a complete mess firmware-wise, each update to fix a problem brings a new one and their reliability is sub-par (i went through 4 indilinx drives and 2 sandforce ones, now all pcs in my family run either intel or samsung drives)...

there is a reason why samsung and intel are the last ones with offering new controller generations and come with a slightly higher price tag: validation and stability
their drives end up in most OEM systems and they can't afford to release a crappy firmware, that's why they are the most reliable drives on the market and don't need dozens of firmware updates to get rid of small issues

Actually, the reason is that these companies have the R&D and man power to test it properly

If I remember correctly, Intel also released a botched firmware for their ssd's.

even so, I'd pick intel over any other company who has there name in SSD's.. havent had one issue with 3 of my intel xm25 ssd's

Oh yeah, me too. But due to reliability issues with sandforce controllers rather than firmware. Those darn sandforce controllers just keep dying.

If sandforce SF-12xx use 25nm flash than you will see write speed only 50~70MB/s.

They have a thread going on at the OCZ forums...

They also released an additional Performance datasheet (pdf) including the new 25nm drives (metrics are based on AS-SSD)
