    Intel Xeon E5630 Westmere or I7 950?

    My company accidently ordered a few more cpus and i can buy one of them for $200 i was wondering if i should get it or just pay an extra 100 for an i7 950

    950 Pro's
    stock at 3ghz

    westmere pro's
    32nm
    12mb

    Cooling is water (heatkiller). Whcih one would you get.

    I'd get the Xeon. Can't go wrong with 32nm goodness.

    Get that cheap Xeon and overclock it!

    On water you should get some nice results.

    Forget the 950 anyways, it is dead (just like other 45nm).

    You got a really good price on that E5630, but I believe a 2006K would beat it in several fronts, including 24/7 OC-headroom. But you have to pay slightly more + a new MB.
    If you can, get 2 of them + a SR-2, then it will become another leve.

    With that price, that E5630 is a really good option for single set-up too. Just make sure your Classified 3 can run it. I haven't seen any problems or success, and wouldn't know, but you have to check it out. You may also need a BIOS update (if you got a really old BIOS).
