    never seen a 480 type cooler on a 570.
I just checked after seeing your picture you could put a ref 480 cooler on a 570,,the 480 base plate does fit quite well on ref 570
do you have a grilled cover, like dont tell me that there is a big 480 hot plate on it too?

anyways my 570's stock clocks fan maxed 65c looped 5 times in heaven all maxed 1600x1200.

um sry, what does the fan cover look like?
480's had a metal plate soddered to the heatsink fins that showed thruogh the fan cover thats why i called it a hotplate.

I think so - from remembering - I can't see the bottom of the card without taking the PC out completely - but with my hands I can feel the "griddle" of the metal part anyway

is that good or bad ? lol

Not sure if its good or bad.

Its just that msi(?) must have used 480 coolers on some 570's

    like this ref. 480

thanks - only reason I bought the 570 over a 60 dollar cheaper 480 - was for the quieter- cooler vapor-chill 5xx series cooler

I'd may as well gone with the 480 - with the extra mem, bandwidth etc - if I'd known Iwas getting same cooler !! and saved myself a load of money

I know manufacturers can put any cooler on that they'd like - but I was assuming that other than the Factory OC I was getting a reference cooler - which is sort of what you assume unless you go for a Twin-Frozr, Phantom etc which have specialist upgraded cooling - and its obvious before you buy

    I wasn't expecting previous gen cooler !

in reply to above- yes brand new out of box

apparently - according to this set of forum posts - its normal for this SKU just wish I'd known before I'd ordered so i could have had a choice one way or the other

if you can live with it ok, its not the end of the world but if not...

Mail msi or the store and tell them take there pos back, that fan had no buissness on a 570.
just to see what they say.
I would rma if could and it is an issue you do run hotter then ref. cards.
+ Just forget resale even ebay would make you give money back if the buyer refused it...theres no site link to back up anything!
like its the msi rep said in the guys post

"The manager rang up an MSI representative, who told him that it's from a special batch with the cooling from the 480, that's why it isn't on their website"

My ref. 570 needs about 1.15v to hit 85c looped heaven with fan max.

just re-ran Heaven - auto-fan, undervolted@ 0.965V, and at the stock oc clocks (786 mhz)

after one run - 84C - and fan speed of 59%

    doesn't seem great ?

If its warm room temps not so bad,if cool room temps not so good.

    *
this fan is most effective when set higher then 60% try that to help if you can stand the noise.

Those cards clock well. But your cpu is indeed terrible on DICE, reminds me of my 2nd card. It's terrible on DICE.

Really suprise, MSI GTX 570 OC, not an ordinary reference card with overclocked frequirences, but it's a board manufactured by MSI itself, however it still uses only 4 phase power for GPU, not 6, uses heatpipe cooler from GTX 480, maybe MSI have a lot of them and don't know where to sold them, and modifyed BIOS with MSI subvendor IDs.

still 2minds about my MSI OC 570 - I haven't had the time this weekend yet to take it out of case - put back old card in, and send back to shop for RMA

thing is - I'm still miffed about it being a bit of a weird card ... if that makes sense - but actually its not that bad - its not that loud, and doesn't get that hot either

oc's out of the box are quite good too - and at low volts at stock 786/4200 mem my VID is 0.963 - not too bad anyway

what do you mean by its a MSI manufactured board vs a OC'd reference board, is it being made by MSI a good thing or bad thing ?

pity still standard 4 phase VRM - but sort of guessed that from the back of the board and the 2x6 pin power inputs

    cheers

    the ref 570's have only 2 6pin also buckster^

I still cant believe it,i would pissed to have a cut down card for the same price.
Important thing is if its ok for what your using it for

    BTW
are you guys in the states?
I'v seen some cards only launched in asia that were cut down like that.
