Computer randomly shutting off

Hate my computer right now. My computer is randomly shutting off. I was getting a kernel power critical error in event logger and random BSOD on boot. But after a format and OS re-install (win7 pro 64) I'm getting event id 6008, eventlog error. Also amdkmdag is spamming event id 6145 errors. What gives? Thanks in advanced!

This is a nasty bug that there is no known fix for. Basically, the kernel power message you are seeing comes after the crash itself, so there is no good debugging information available to use. I ran into this at a clients recently, and in his case, was able to resolve it by disabling -one- of the ati hd audio drivers in the device manager.

This does not mean that is a guarunteed fix for your system. I'm away from my laptop atm that has all of my notes, but I'll try to paste a few links to the technet articles I used to come up with a fix when time permits. If I don't post back here, just pm me and remind me.

Installed a new Corsair 650TX. Ran fine all day yesterday playing BF:BC2. Then last night after being on the internet a while I launched BF:BC2, 2 minutes later it powers off. First screen freezes, then the USB stuff powers off, then the PC. So I rebooted and it powered off again. I'm getting critical error 41 (Kernel-Power) in event viewer. Also get a 6008 error in event viewer, but right before that I have an information event 89 (Kernel-Power). Also getting a mess of AMDKMDAG event 62464 errors, over 1,000 in the last hour alone. Now it's powering off more and more often. I can't even load anything intensive.

The computer does not BSOD, it just powers off. The same as unplugging the power.

Okay guys I went ahead and removed both HD 4870's (using onboard HD 3200), all memory sticks except 1. The thing is still powering off randomly. Less often but still powering off.

Someone mentioned it might be the video cards so I installed one of my HD 4870s into another PC I just built. It powers off randomly now also.

The only thing I get in both systems is the Kernel Power 41 error in event viewer, but that only tells me that the system powered down unexpectedly.

So is there something wrong with both video cards, the motherboard, or both systems? I'm losing sleep over this please help.

The same thing has started happening to me about 2 weeks ago, occurs every second day or so. I have never been around while it has reset, I just come back to a fresh resetted, desktop. I have simply no idea what is causing it. The PC has been running fine for over a year and all of a sudden this happens. I formatted yesterday and had the same error occur sometime last night, which leads me to believe its hardware or at least a newer driver/software I've installed rather recently. Cat 10.12 preview maybe?

At first I thought it may have been my washing machine which may have damaged my PSU (they are on the same circuit...)

Here's a pic of my 12v rail and CPU load during a OCCT PSU stress test, looks really dodgy, but software monitors aren't very reliable are they?



Any thoughts? My specs are in my sig. :o Ignore the overclock, I've been running at stock for the last few months.

Interestingly, I turned off the power to the computer from the wall while it was on and could not replicate the error.

What gave you the idea to remove the audio device? The fact there was (perhaps erroneously) 2 of them?

I had a new build a few years ago that did this and I spent 3 monthes troubleshooting. Even took it to a shop and no one could figure it out. Countless hours on the phone with tech support

and finally they(video card BFG tech support) told me the last thing to do was update my bios via floppy. Low and behold motherboard would'nt recognise the floppy. Replaced motherboard

and it was fixed. I had to go component by component. Problem was it would only reboot in one game and only after 4-8 hours of constant use. So I would have to start up the game

in server mode and check back the next day. It was the worst!

That sounds horrible.

The problem for me (and perhaps other users) is that my PC has been rock solid for over a year, and now, with no hardware changes this error is occurring. That said I can't rule out hardware due to degradation of some sort.

I have an Intel/ATI system, and it looks like people with nvidia cards are affected as well. (even those with on board video...)

The problem is that the error is extremely ambiguous and different methods have solved the problem for different people.

Tried rolling back video drivers? I went back to 10.10's yesterday and my system didn't reset overnight, which is promising...

What USB devices do you have plugged in? Any dodgy ports? I read on another forum, a guy solved it by working out one of the pins in one of his USB ports was bent...

I'm going to try older drivers. I only have My mouse and keyboard plugged in.

Well looks like I've solved the problem somehow. Rolled back to 10.10's, unplugged all the useless USB cables I had plugged in. Comp has reset in a few days.

Maybe try swapping the ports your devices are connected to.

Switched to 10.10 now the monitor loses signal, the system hangs, sound can still be heard, and then the system powers off. Sometimes it doesnt power off completely and it wont respond to the power buttons, so I have to use the power switch on the PSU.

So I did so many things that I really do not know what fixed it. My guess is reverting to 10.10, underclocking card to 600MHz, and removing the card with the faulty fan.

sounds to me like your mobo is kicking the bucket, if you have to underclock the card to make it work then mobo freaks out under stress... I'm having a similar issue with random turn offs with a gateway computer that has a 9200 based board and i've tried every combination possible and it still randomly dies... can only be the mobo now...
