AMD Fusion II on next-generation XBox

Microsoft's next-generation XBox is obviously being worked on and while the externals (the look and packaging) might be nowhere near finalised, hardware is having to be done right now and locked in with various companies with AMD looking like Microsoft's BFF for the new XBox.
The rest on the tweaktown website.
    Source

To me ,it looks like Bulldozer based Fusion II .We are probably going to see something like 4 Bulldozer-like cores and on-die GPU with ~800 or so SPs,2x Llano (VLIW-4?) ,all done on 28nm gate first HK/mg node.If MS goes with AMD,the chances are Sony will do it too since AMD will probably have the best APU/Fusion chip on the market.

sony would probably go nVidia or powerVR.

The terrific professionalism shown in this article aside: I think it is obvious that some sort of an APU will be used in the next generation of consoles.

That however is not going to happen anytime soon. Both, MS and Sony have just released a new major brand with their controler thingies. So there won't be a new generation for at least another three years just because of this reason alone.

this was posted earlier, but i think they deleted cause the source wasnt to their liking.

as far as specs, like i said in the other:

150W of total power consumption can give them 4 cores (2 module/4cores or 4 Llano cores) for 50W, then 100W can offer 6950 like speeds at 28nm.

Considering that from Fusion announcement to this day is worth 1/3 of the current Duke Nukem Forever announcement-to-release waiting time, and we still don't see a finished product from either side, I think that instead of speculating what will happen later we must concentrate on monitoring how the earlier promises gets done or simply send to the trash can any future prediction.

They also say that ps3 has 7600GT, and xbox GPU support DX10, LOL !!

Graphically, both Sony and Microsoft raised the bar significantly from previous generations. While nVidia provided Sony with a chip similar to the DX9 7600GT card (which today would have graphics performance similar to a GT220 for £30), Microsoft went with an R600 derivative from ATI called the Xenos. Performance is close to a Radeon HD 1900, but with DX10 features from the R600. Both choices have worked out well and game sales for both consoles are good.

I'm guessing that English isn't your first language, but they are actually right for the most part. Notice the "similar" for the RSX and them not saying Xenos flatly being a DX10 chip.
While the RSX and the Xenos are not DX9 compliant, they are extremely similar. It wouldn't make sense for them to create an entirely new way of thinking for GPU's; why not just modify the features of DX9 that were previously held back by DX specification?
For Xenos, some of the features that they adopted, such as a unified shader architecture ended up in the DX10 specification. Seeing as Xenos is more similar to R600 than R500, this makes sense. Tessellation was also included in Xenos, and is now a part of the DX11 specification.

    Kitguru is a complete joke...

PS3 has a G70 based GPU and xbox 360 makes use of a complete custom design with SM3.0 compatible unified shaders, eDram for free 2xAA and a memory controller connected to the cpu with a hypertransport link....

afaik 360s GPU has almost nothing in common with R520 and R600

I would hate if the next xbox used fusion. Bulldozer CPU fine, but an integrated graphic part? Thats like pulling a Nintendo wii hardware wise. IF the PS3 was released on time, both it and the xbox 360 had top notch graphics similar to what was top of the line at the time. Fusion can't deliver that.

To get me to buy the console at launch, they better put a graphics chip the equivalent of a $300 card.

I thought it was announced last year that Microsoft had signed with AMD for the next chip in the XBox?

Whether it was or not I happen to know someone working on a project to get power consumption down on the next chip from AMD/ATI for a certain platform
    Rig 1:
    ASUS P8Z77-V
    Intel i5 3570K @ 4.75GHz
    16GB of Team Xtreme DDR-2666 RAM (11-13-13-35-2T)
    Nvidia GTX 670 4GB SLI

    Rig 2:
    Asus Sabertooth 990FX
    AMD FX-8350 @ 5.6GHz
    16GB of Mushkin DDR-1866 RAM (8-9-8-26-1T)
AMD 6950 with 6970 bios flash

Yamakasi Catleap 2B overclocked to 120Hz refresh rate
    Audio-GD FUN DAC unit w/ AD797BRZ opamps
Sennheiser PC350 headset w/ hero mod

When AMD was designing R500, they wasted time on that and delayed R520.
I hope AMD will not be distracted by the xbox project.

The xbox project probably helped AMD too. Both chips share similar technology and MS will likely give them a huge R and D budget.

Sony gave Nvidia a whole crap load of money for the rsx chip, which was mostly gtx 7800.

Additionally, the more powerful a console the xbox next is, the more likely your going to get good console/pc ports.

I'm almost positive the Xenos shaders lack the ability to handle geometry, which is a KEY part of the DX10 specification. Remember, unified shaders aren't required for DX10, which was something sites tried to convince us before the G80 launch when they claimed the G80 wouldn't be unified.

Except everybody always compared RSX to 7900. But I'm sure Kitguru got this one right.

I am really bummed that the Zacate does not have equal CPU and GPU freq and i expect neither will llano because even if the chip can handle it the power requirements will be mind boggling

I hope there comes a time when the GPU and CPU parts run on similar clocks maybe Fusion 2 will be that chip who knows.

by Amd slides the natural path to fusion apu's should be 4 core cpu+gpu integrated (llano) > each cpu core with 1 gpu x 6-8 cores (maybe same frequency for both?) > hybrid core which executes both functions and built in cluster of many cores (full integration)

At least thats how I imagine it will progress.
