Quick OC session with Palit GTX 470 Dual Fan

When I first got this card I was a bit disappointed with the OC, at stock voltage it'll do a high core but no memory overclock at all ... until I played with the voltage!

Not bad going at all I don't think!
    Don't worry guys, i'm s**t at games but I have 500fps!

Just got this card set up today - absolute beast, nearly 2x as powerful as my 4870 in some games/apps. Still waiting on my 12GB memory kit arriving so I have only a cheap 2x1GB Micron kit to tide me over at the moment, but I'm going to look into overclocking the graphics card soon.

I was going to use riva tuner, but seeing that you have used the MSI tool I might follow suit - is it better?

Riva wont offer voltage adjustment. Both have their uses

Yeah, only reason I use Afterburner is it lets you change the voltage with no fuss

How far did you get it before voltage adjustment? I'd be happy with 700ish on the core, possibly 750. Have never messed with GPU voltage before because it's an expensive and precious component with cooling far less substantial than the CPU!!

Im using 750mhz core, 1700mhz memory for 24/7 use - only boost the voltage for benchmarking. Core does OK but memory needs the extra power!

How's the temps on it at that setting? Also, do you leave it cranked or set a profile to launch games at those settings?

It's not doing too badly at all - with the fan forced to 100% it idles around 37-38 degrees - but it's VERY noisy, 2 x 80mm fans at 4000rpm!

Load temps are pretty toasty with the extra voltage, peaked at about 90 in vantage. Without the extra voltage it was around 80c after a vantage run, after a long gaming session It was around 81-83 degrees with the fan on auto, running about 60% - not great, not horrible.

750MHz sounds awesome; will get on it tomorrow and post some results.

This vantage score is with physx turned off (setting is called PPU? I think) so it's fair to compare to ATI cards - without it the CPU score is around 51k!

Is it possible to set a profile though to only have it cranked when games launch? I don't think I'd want the fans running that loud when watching movies and surfing the net.

I managed 750/1500 and didn't touch the memory, got 23,157 in 3DMark06 (I'm in XP at the moment). Can probably break 25k with some CPU tweaking.

This graphics card is a monster compared to my 4870...this says CPU is at 3.6 but it was at 4GHz with turbo on, HT enabled.

Next stop: Win7 x64 and Vantage...

Here's Vantage at the exact same settings (CPU 4GHz, 191x21, GPU 750/1500/stock mem)

I just tested in OCCT and had to bump the core down to 710mhz to get it stable - not sure why OCCT was so harsh and picking up errors because it seemed totally fine even after a few hours of gaming! But ah well - i'd rather lose a few mhz and have 100% stability.

SBB I don't like OCCT as a test. FAH is a great to find out your true stability.

LennyRhys do you have current feedback override enabled in bios? 3dmark cant read my cpu speed properly on the bloodrage without it enabled - ends up clock throttling at even mild overclocks .

Shame the Palit isnt reference - its the cheapest card available here in the UK. No full cover blocks fit it .

Disabled - I can't remember if I deliberately disabled it, or if I did it just because I was told to by some tutorial lol.

I was looking for the cheapest "good" graphics card but didn't want to pay much over £150 so I sniped ebay for a few days and got the GTX 470 for £180 delivered.

Yeah you need to have it enabled . May gain you a few 3dmark points too. You can definitely see it in Linx as the Gflops bounce round all over the place .

Anything over about 3.8ghz trips the current protection. Knocks you out of turbo mode too if you're using it. Bear in mind this'll force your cpu to run full speed now, so you may need to test for cpu stability again (wont affect bclk, uncore or ram).

Cheers - will look into it when I get my 12GB kit installed and see if it will get to 1600MHz!

Currently testing the power consumption of my new hardware. I have a strong 500W PSU and so far, with prime95 @ 4GHz and fur mark running on a heavily overclocked GTX 470, I've managed to draw 570 watts

There's no way I need a new power supply however, because normal (even heavy) use draws nowhere near 500W. I'm quite impressed that a 500W PSU comfortably handles a 4GHz i7 and an overclocked GTX 470 in real world scenarios.

Which PSU? What efficiency? Assuming 85%, that's 425 from the PSU.

What about LinX all + Furmark unlock power draw? Toss some files around your network too.
