    Yea, I know the feeling.
The problem I have is that if I got the chips in my hands Idoubt they will work in the boards. Need a bios that includes these but I will try.

That is a concern I've had all along, though it's possible they were included in the last firmware revision.
My winning the lottery is "possible", too, just for reference.

Should simply be a microcode issue in BIOS if anything. If someone can send me a BIOS image for your boards I'll see what can be done about it...

Here's the BIOS update download if it helps: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/conf...ProductID=2362 (agreement thing to click blah blah blah)

    edit:
From the readme in the download:
    Build 0019: RC01.04
    - Add Microcode (M106EC55) for the Sossaman D-0 stepping processor.
What's the stepping code of the Meroms?

Well, seems there are only 3 microcode patches in the BIOS.. I don't know how that relates to your guys' existing knowledge of the CPUs supported by the board? Or if the dates are any help (though they should just correspond to each BIOS update, nothing you don't know already)?

But, here's the thing - when I first got my sossaman, it would start up and run fine but complained about a missing microcode for the CPU. So, even though the microcode isn't there, it could still be theoretically possible for the CPUs to work OK?

May be possible, yes. But if the appropriate microcode is there, then 'may be possible' becomes 'almost definite'..

same cpu, but new stepping works without proper bios update ...
A different cpu (merom) won't be drop-in compatible i'm afraid. Unless the bios is ready for these cpu's.

I'd guess he's not in too good of health, at least that's why he was MIA for so long last time. I hope I'm wrong though, it's just not the same around here without him ya know

My guess is that he found himself something more important than overclocking. [Perhaps a sexy little thing that is fun to play with ]

The price of reliability is the pursuit of the utmost simplicity. It is a price which the very rich find most hard to pay.

Modern Ram, makes an old overclocker miss BH-5 and the fun it was
