    New i7 870 build...slow as all getup...WTF?

AS the title states. 4 gigs of RAM, 1TB WD HDD, gigabit mobo and vid card with nvidia chipset. Installed OE version of win 7. No desktop shows up, and its taking roughly 1:20 to boot up. Any ideas? Bios shows everything correctly...no overclocking, etc...just a fresh build. Thx in adv!

ACPI or IDE mode in BIOS for HDD? Is it the WD Green 1TB? If so, they're slow as all getup.. I had one as an OS drive for a while. Ugh..

WTF is SATA 6gbps? I'd take a guess and say ACPI mode would be required for that kind of HDD. Set it, reformat (I think - does Win7 need a reformat when switching from IDE to ACPI and vicea versa? -- google this to confirm, but XP did) and see if it works!

Its basically SATA3. And I changed the bios to allow (auto select) for the 2 6Gbps ports. re-installing win 7 now. oddly, It told me NOT to install it onto the hard drive as "This drive may fail soon". Not sure if that is because of the bios switch or if the drive is bad. After this install, if it is still slow as can be, I might plug in my older 250gig drive and see if anything changes before I go the RMA route. If anyone else has some ideas...I'm all ears!

and thanx Nick for the help so far!

Been out of the loop for a veeeeery long time my friend, haha. My last 'fast' rig was a E6600/8800GTS or a E7300/3870.. then I bought a store-bought PhenomII X4. Now I'm in the process of building another PC, gimme a break lol :p

debating water too, I miss water. I miss my dual loop cm690 setup the most , and benching w/chilled water was great fun

    do u mean AHCI.

did u check the bios to make sure that u have the correct cpu speed and that u changed the stings for the ram to what its rated or to jdc and set its voltage manually.

if u boot to the windows disk, did the animations lag.

    what are your specs.

did it ever work or when u installed did the 1st boot break it, or did it happen affter drivers

Hard drive was the culprit. Loaded up no problem on my 2nd hd...not a single delay in anything I tried. Thanks guys for the help in this matter!

Have you run any tests on the harddrive? Maybe it needs to be RMAd.

    Sounds like memory to me...

Try updated bios and definitely set all sata drives to AHCI.

Are you using the raid controller SATA ports? Make sure not to use the raid controller chipset unless you plan on using raid. Just use the regular SATA controller and have that set to AHCI.
