It's important to remember that core binning, voltage and PWM design have a huge impact upon overall TDP. Meanwhile, all of those PLUS heatsink performance / core heat has a profound effect upon power consumption.

The way I think of it is that NVIDIA can very well reduce core and memory voltage on hand-picked GPUs while implementing a high-end PWM design. This could in effect allow them to reduce per-GPU power consumption by a large amount.

Guess that could explain the claim that only Asus and EVGA will have cards at launch. As in, not enough highly binned chips to supply all brands.

I don't think you can compare card to card for TDP. core/memory speed, reworked pcb, binned core, PWM, low memory voltage etc etc.

Don't forget too Nvidia don't use the max power board, but the average TDP or Power... if this slide is official, it don't use any words as TDP, Max power...
We will need wait complete presentation and slides for get more infos.

Problem is availability, some was speaking about 1 thousand card only ( not as thoses cards sell so much ) ?

Or NVIDIA is doing the right thing: limiting the initial partner participation to those which have excellent supply chains in order to facilitate distribution to key retailers.

I still think that to sell these cards at a "competitive" price vs 6990 ... partners & nvidia know that they will loose some money in order to have a top of the line, king of the hill solution at prices that people will buy ... if not ... it will happen like Mars ... it was the fastest card but it was not really that popular...

Price wise, my gut feelings are pointing to 800 Euros.... maybe 799Eur or something

If its going to be 365W, it will not beat HD6990 on perfomance for sure.

Oh and by the way ... a good VRM design will lower consumption values. My GTX580 DCUII consumes 20W less in full load than a reference card!

You may want to avoid making statements like this because it opens you up to flaming if / when your post is proven wrong.

Good point, but surely the most optimal case would be that all partners where given the hardware? (assuming enough supply can be given from nvidia to fill all partners need)

Or I guess the "only 1000 cards" thing could be true as well, then it makes more sense

Fx57 from DonanımHaber has received an info about one of the AIBs roadmap papers mentions that GTX 590 is "World's Fastest Single Graphic Card"..

Well, simple math tells that im not likely to be wrong here.
GTX580 is quite a lot more powerhungry than HD 6970 is. I dont think that nvidia managed to cut power requirement so much and still beat AMD card on perfomance.
This would be the first time nvidia manages that on 45nm technology.

Sweds did a bit of simulating the results with 2x GTX580

If GTX590 will outperform the HD6990 and still be at 365W while doing so, I will be very suprised.
    But we will see soon.

i agree, if it doesnt outperform the 6990 at that power envelope then its very impressive job by nvidia. Not sure how much power memory pulls but they have a gig less of memory so surely that has to add up somewhere?

still it will be a good match up imo and i like the fact the 590 is able to do surround on single card thats a nice feature. Just comes down to price/performance. I still believe amd will edge them out but its only a short week a way.

Looks like the two cards basically went on the same design... fan in center, dual vapor chambers, slightly offset bridge chipset

And Nvidia and AMD use different methods of listing TDP, so I wouldn't compare them directly

Well, let us say perfomance per watt then. So theres no confusion.

    Nope.

They both list TDP though AMD keeps their TDP numbers under wraps and only publishes them for board partners / OEMs.

What AMD does is list "max board power" on their presentations which represents the absolute peak a given board will consume when used at its reference clock frequencies.

    As for NVIDIA's ratings...well, they're TDP.

I would wait to compare both stock clock and OC power consumption and temps but you may have to search around to find a reviewer who actually will provide that.

All this TDP stuff is clear to me:
365W when browsing mail, 600W while playing minesweeper.

At least its coming out and thats something for NVIDIA.

It will be interesting to know if users will need to bump up voltage to get a mild to decent OC.

hmmm didn't understand that one east ...

If they are hand picking binned gpu's for their low voltage profiles... my guess is that will come at the lowest voltage limit for that core speed... so ... yes ... i believe you'll have to increase voltage ... :x

That is my thought as well but I want to know how much it would increase power consumption/temps. And I would also be interested in seeing if there are any throttle controls in place. But needless to say hand picked, binned gpus is a pretty vague term now a days. Lets see what happens in a few days...

Why are they using only an 11" card? that leaves room for a significantly smaller vapor chamber. Also I don't like the conservative clocks, it gives too much rip off room for people that don't know about overclock. E.g a SSC edition for clocks at 700 or something, which should be the standard clocks.

Hopefully these are wrong, but at 600mhz there is no way it will beat the 6990 overall. I can see them beating AMD with a 375(using NV less stringent rating scheme), but not at 600mhz clocks. They need a bare minimum 700mhz to get into 6990 range.
