    what would be better: PERC5i or LSI 9240-8i?

    as per title.. the PERC5i has cache.. the LSI is the 'latest'

    For SSD's? Without a doubt 9240-8i. With the PERC5i you would be making out the controller with barely 2 drives.

    As above. With SSD's I wouldn't touch a PERC5. Actually, I wouldn't touch it with performance HDD's either.

    A somewhat middle of the line might be a last-gen Areca card or a PERC6. Great speed for HDD's, OK for some SSD use, and you should be able to find a card with on-board cache.
    Dual CCIE (Route\Switch and Security) at your disposal. Have a Cisco-related or other network question? My PM box is always open.

    they pop up frequently enough on ebay & OCAU sale section for... the least I've seen is AUD$75. Most I would pay is ~$AUD100



    edit: oops, forgot, I mean the IBM 1015 - its almost the same as the 9240-8i sans the RAID5 capability!
