Question About to buy a GTX 460... which one ?

I'm about to buy a GTX 460, I want fast, quiet and low temps.

The msi talon attack looks pretty good http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127534 , anything better ? (non-evga)

    Deng,

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-117-_-Product

    Or

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-123-_-Product

Both will do over 950c with a modified bios and idle around 25c. I had the ECS 460 in the first link and at 1.2v it pulled 984 core and only topped out at 79C in kombuster.

I'd say go for the Gigabyte OC model. Good cooling, quiet, and unlike most cards (including the Gigabyte SOC), it has a heatsink on the VRMs, which get pretty toasty when overclocking.

I can't use those in my SG05 case because the cooler is too wide. I only have room for a double slot cooler. Thanks anyway.

The Gigabyte cooler is not unlike the AC one on the ECS/Sparkle cards, just slimmer, only takes up two slots.

I like that one, but it seems to have a higher than normal failure rate.

Why not EVGA? EVGA GTX 460 FTW: idle fan 30% with 31 degrees, load games 70 degrees with fan 51%, FUR-Xtreme Burning Mode 83 degrees with fan 63%, very quiet in real life, with VRM heatsink.

I heard many people disspointed from Hawk, or Hawk Talon(even here is a thread)
Memory doesn't clock well(Talon), gpu clocks as reference(915-930 with 1.087), the only good thing is the cooling.
Buy a Gigabyte SOC, it's much better, at least memory will do 4800.

The VRM and the cooler it's at leat as good as HAWK's.

    Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB OC
    MSI GTX 460 Cyclone
    Msi Hawk
    Asus 1 GB DirectCu

Those are excellent models but a good reference cooling (copper + 2 heatpipes) works really well too

@dsaraolu EVGA only makes cards with the average reference cooler, and that god awful EE cooler.

@xdan Shame they decided not to put a VRM heatsink on the SOC, they get pretty hot.

I stopped doing business with evga due to a couple of their nasty business practices... lets leave it at that please.

I had two hawks and didn't do well with them. I ended up with 2 FTW EE and I will admit the cooler is nothing like these other coolers shown.
Out of the box mine does 930/1150 with cool Texas air. I haven't reapplied tim yet. I'm deafer than a stump so fan noise means nothing to me unless it's a higher pitch whine.

Have you bought anything yet? Good luck with whatever you get. Didn't know anything about bad business practices.

I'm leaning toward the Gigabyte SOC but haven't ordered yet. I'll read some reviews and order tonight.

I'm expecting a Gigabyte 1GB OC card today. SOC was about $25 more and i didn't think it was worth it. Was originally thinking of buying HD6850 but i'm glad i changed my mind. First time with nVidia actually

I'm sure you'll love your new card.

I need some more ram and I've had my eye on that Corsair ram you have. Newegg has it for $154 I believe. Do you like it? Have you overclocked it much?

I like the ram, it's never given any problems. I haven't overclocked it much and it's been a while since I did. I think around 1700 at rated timings is as far as it's been.

The 460 is going in my travel/backup box and replacing an hd 5850. Turns out most of the games I play work best on nvidia.
