    PCB Soldering Question

I want to get rid of the yellow and red wiring running from my Gentle Typhoons. I've got the 22AWG black stranded to do it but looking closely you can see the solder points where the undesirable colored wires contact a PCB. I want to know if I can just hold the soldering iron to that point until the contact becomes loose than replace with the desired color, sleeve and whatever else.

There's also a roll of blue tape just to the side which I was planning on using to mask and then use vinyl dye for the wires. I'd rather the soldering method but I'm not sure it works. So, hence, my question...

EDIT: problem- I was able to remove the ring being used as a retention bracket. I kept a magnet close by to catch it should it fly. I think I damaged internal components of the fan because now the fan only stutters forward and back on power up. Anything i could do to repair this? Maybe discharge the magnetic attraction somehow??

Yes you can desolder and resolder some new wire onto the fan by just heating the existing joint. Just add a touch of new solder to the new wiring first.

As for your problem. It would seem you have damaged something. Use another fan. Shame, but it happens.

if your not experienced at soldering, just cut the wire close to the pcb, then remove the insulation and solder a new wire to the short bit of the original wire

have to becareful if you do it. sometimes the heat of a solder iron can damage components if you hold it on long enough. also sometimes consumer solder irons cant get hot enough to heat solder on already made devices.

If you use temperature controlled soldering iron you can accurately set temperature of iron. That way you will avoid burning or damaging electronic components on the PCB.
There are some reviews of temperature controlled soldering iron on website:

Sometimes it can be a pain to get old solder to melt, in these cases I like to add new solder. The new solder allows you to heat the old solder more efficiently, then you pull the old wire to remove it and finally use a solder sucker to remove the old + new solder.

Thanks guys I was able to do everything just like you said. Have done several so far, and each time I thought "those two solder points are definitely touching" stuff has still worked. Here are some pics:
