    to my log.

So I've had a Lian Li TYR X-2000 for about 2 years now.
I was running a V1 zalman reserator with an upgraded pump(from day 1) and a 120 and 240 external rad.
Hardware is mostly 2 years old, hasn't been any games worth upgrading for lately.
I try to skip a gpu gen, got 4870s now, so the 6870s are looking good

I said I'd never dremel it, then one day during a forum discussion a few months ago about case grommet holes, i decided F*%$ it!

Not long after i saw the new HWL SR1 560, then found Aquacomputer.
A few couriers, $$s and cut off wheels later, here we are.

Ive just recieved my (maybe) last delivery and time to install.
I recently decided to change from 240/120 rads for exhaust to 280/140 to match the 560 intake.
So i have a minor issue with the hole on the top panel now being too big.
I made it big enough to drop the rad and fans straight in, with a radgrill on top. but the hole is now wider than 140mm fan holes.

Trying to get my hands on a 280 radgrill to sort it, but i may just fab something.
Still need to decide on best option and drill mounts and trim hole a bit.

Anyway, finally found the mini usb adaptor for sony camera , **&$#sony*$&%non*&$standard&*%(plugs*&#%@!!!!! *

So heres some pics of where I'm up to,
still in progress so ideas are welcome.

It may look like a pretty plain build atm,
but the last 2 pics give a clue as to what it may look like when finished...

    Update 8/11/10

Ok got my ASXT exchanged and am now back to work

After a few discussions on these forums i have decided not to mount the 280 rad on top as exhaust, as it will just get hot air from the other rads and hdds.

I am thinking of mounting it on the rear from the original 140 fan mount up to the rear meshed part.
I was going to mount a 140 up the top and the ac res and aquaero in the original 140 mount.
But I am liking this plan atm. I just have to cut some mesh out now to mount it right.(pic 3 below) the plexi is from a previous idea to use as a "flange" to mount from.

I have remounted the 240 radgrill to the top with just 2 enermax 120s on it, no rad. now i dont have to do anymore cutting of the top panel

So the rads will now be 560 on the front and 280 on the rear, both as intake.
the air flow will pass over my 6 hdds and out the top 240 exaust fans.
not sure what to do with the 140 now, cant fit it anywhere

So now i have nowhere to mount the aquaero, res, flow sensor and filter. any ideas welcome.

I have also changed the psu and pump placement, the psu is just a big black box that took up too much valuable space, and didn't light well.
So its now external, with ALOT of other power distribution gear for lighting.

Now i have the whole bottom chamber free I can fit the pump in my preferred spot on the left so its tube to the cpu goes straight up.

I did have it mounted on the right but only to clear the psu.

So now im thinking of putting the res "vertical" with the glass up, it lines up nicely with the pump inlet, and fulfills both my wishes to see the whole top and whole body, its too beautiful to hide!

    1st pic is pump right
    2nd pic is pump left
3rd is cutting to be done to mount 280
4th is top radgrill and fillport in position
    5th is a BP/EK/Koolance 3 way orgy

    Update 9/11/10

    All rads mounted now,
very happy with the new config
    especially squeezing the 140 in

all rads are now doing intake, then up over my hdds and out the top 2x120 outtake
i still have to make the fan grills for the rear rads to match the front, from the mesh side panels of a TT Tribe

still not 100% sure on where to put pump/res/flow/filter and most importantly Aquaero.......

the big blank area to the right of the mobo will be mostly cables and lights,
i have the whole bottom chamber free now, just cant decide on how to do it.
TOO many options, not a bad problem to have though..

yeah i caught the AC monitoring bug, it seems to be fatal! to my wallet.

nah the old cpus are all junk, early C2Ds,
my main cpu is only an e8600

i still cant see any benefit from going i7 and a truckload of ram.
dual core 3ghz and 4gb ddr2 handles anything i throw at it still!

when i finish this build i will probably replace the hardware with something that needs this much cooling
one last bit of dremeling to do to mount top and rear rad and i'll be ready to get wet

    well yes obviously...its a Li-Li
they are way overpriced. but i love it! Id buy another one today, the same original x2000 not the crappy new one too.
the only case ive seen in the 2 years since that id prefer is a MM ascension.

I got the case/psu/hdds about 2 years ago, after a trip to Hong Kong where i got the mobo/cpu/gpus/ram. the cpu and gpus (2 x 4870s) only became available the day i bought them.
but then a week after i got back from HK the 4870x2 came out... DOH!

yeah same as your kit eh.

i WAS very impressed with the AC gear, then i had a faulty temp sensor,
now my ASXT pump has failed, badly!

    bottom of this thread http://forum.aquacomputer.de/weitere...eam-1-aquaero/

i was really keen to get all the matching AC kit to talk to each other, and display all that info,

now i'm wondering if i should ever leave it unattended!

Hmm, interesting idea with rad placement on back with just the opening for only back of gpu with displays atached
BTW, what is airflow direction in all the rads?

all sucking fresh cool air from outside and pumping it in

the SR1 has a built in shroud on one side only, opp the fittings.
so fans go on outside then silicone then rad
    in PUSH

due to the way im mounting them it would be too hard to have the fans in PULL

i doubt i will have any major temp issue because of it though

Great case ! The fact that you used lego to sort out your CPU's and RAM modules makes me want to follow this build even more .

Creeking: Hmm, if all radfans blow inside of case .. if you are going to put sidewalls in place .. then imho it's worth to cut some extra case fans in sidewalls or top/bottom of case, to little bit even out case air pressure for fans on rads to not work extra hard on pressurising case air and pressing air outside of case through small-ish case gaps. Not as much fans as on rads (as slightly positive air pressure is one of points for dust protection, also resulting air flow from air pushed through resistive dust filters and LC rads will drop), but some nevertheless.

thats a good point churchy, this is plan B, plan A, had the 560 doing intake and the 140/280 doing exhaust,
but the theory of putting hot air through the rads made me re-think.

the fans are VERY low flow, the top 2 120s are exhaust only and there will still be a few BIG gaps, at the bottom where the 140 mounts there is a hole next to it, and at the top above and left of the 280 there is mesh and a gap. as can be seen in the pic of the back, i will probably fill in the square hole between the rads, but leave the other gaps open.

the side panel of the case is a full window, i could put fans in the other panel.

i like the theory about not putting extra pressure on the fans, i will think about this
    cheers mate

Creekin: you can simply check need for extra fans blowing out of case. Check/compare cooling efficiency/temps with sidewalls mounted/without. Then you can decide for yourself if it's worth to take care of or better just left ignored.

yeah i will do some tests churchy, probably by holding a tissue in front of gaps and see how strong the pressure is.

oh i forgot about that pic Alexandros... lol
it was just luck that the technic beams were exactly the right length to corral ram! i say again.. LEGO FTW!!
I have 2 big technic kits i bought not long ago, built once and never looked at again..lol, i thought i had better find a good use for it.

Lol, if I were to find a good use for all my lego half of all items in my house would have lego parts in it. I have an addiction I think .
