what was that older trick that people used for Ati cards having to do with the backplates and putting spacers to increase the pressure on the heatsink, does that still apply to these cards? i wonder if that would help or work.

hopefully ati will put more effort into there cooling for the cayman as nvidia did with the gtx480.
The cooler is no different than the last few reference coolers. I think you had a similar style on your reference 5770??? I could be mistaken.
MX-2 should do the trick although I did have MX-2 on one of my 5770 hawks and MX-3 on the other 5770 hawk. It seemed MX-3 was 3 degrees cooler. I am just trying TX-4 now. Didn't make much difference from MX-3.

    @ Godmyster - performance is what I usually run/see a lot of.

Thanks for posting this. Anyone know what a safe 24/7 overvolt is? Even at 1.25 my card tops at 1030 core / 1150MHz memory

    depends on so many variables.
never seen that many complain, oh my moderate overclocked card died that often on any forum I read.
    I run 950/1120 at 1.25v
it will last until I get a new card.

Well I've maxed out the volts in Sapphire's Trixx program and got some nice results. I know a Vantage run would have been nice, but I need to purchase a key! This is max clocks btw @ 1.299v & 88% fanspeed. Card maxed out at 70*C in Kombustor with those settings (1680x1050 8xAA in kombustor). I guess my memory can't run at 1200MHz stable, 1150 is the highest it'll go before I get artifacts.

^^ Not bad for a Core 2 Duo & single GPU eh?

    Nice OCX600RR

I tried the Sapphire tool on the 6850. It will not do 990 even with 1.300 mV. I does 945|1150 with stock volts though. Weird card IMO.

    def V = 975MHz
    1,2V = 1055MHz

Tests later, anyway, little curiosity. When i use 1,2V and 1055MHz and set it in afterb, card coming to 3d at all times.. So not coming back to 2d mode.

OK I received my second card and this is my vantage at 4.2GHz w/turbo. I cannot do unofficial support so voltage is useless since I cannot go past 1000MHz

OK weird thing happened again. I ran 3DMark 06 with AB 2.1 Beta 3 and my scores were crap. I uninstalled it and installed AB 2.0. With AB 2.0 my frames were up there. Anyone else has this issues on 3DMark06 or DX9 Benchmarks and AB 2.1 Beta X?

DUDE!! Those #'s are UnFrikken believable....
I'm assuming that has to be CF'd 6870's.

I was gonna post my 6870 w/aftermarket cooler clocks, but 1020/1200 on Heaven 2.1 just all seems a little weak now...

Thank you. I saw the setup you did with the Zalman and it looks great. I was about to order 2 of them.... but..... I noticed in the pics it takes up 3 slots right? The way my cosmos s/psu/motherboard sits my bottom card wont clear .
I will have some new numbers today hopefully going past 1000MHz core.
