It matching the 5970 in certain scenarios is certainly interesting too. That should be a good idea of the range of performance this thing might have

if a single 6970 match a 5970 i think people who dislike dual gpu approach would like this card very much

hopefully they reworked the heatsink...maybe a vapor chamber? more heatpipes?

if it has the same heatsink as the 6870 then this will be hot!

My friend had bought a Sapphire HD 3870 Atomic in 2008 and all i could think was that its a gimmick the vapor chamber did not seem like a important technology to me at that time.

The Sapphire card was quite expensive compared to others even more so in India and i was not sure how well it could deal with the heat with its small heat sink

5970 and 5870 had huge vapor chambers almost as big as the baseplate itself only 5850 had a heatpipe coolers (stock 5870 coolers were better than most coolers used by AIBs, only sapphire had quieter more powerful coolers on its vapor-x cards)

The reference 5870 design does not use vapor chamber -- just a set of heat pipes, like 5850.

What are we looking at here exactly? ^

Edit: More pictures were added while I posted, sorry. Can't wait for these cards to actually surface and make up for the 6870s...

I think that is 6950. 2+ 6pin power connector, no backplate and you can see missing transistors for power regulation (4 of 6 phases??)

That's just a solder point. Look at connectors.

English is not my native language. So please, before being too nitpicky about my choice of words, please consider the possiblity that I did not mean to say what you might have read into them and inquire if not sure. Thank you

It still might be 2GB model, they'll just use 2Gbit chips.

Looks almost exactly like a 5870 except for the shroud.
