Anyways, are you a shareholder or on the pay-list of these companies? Why should you care, otherwise?

The fact is, a good price-cut is a reality, no matter what is behind it. This means the end of last years "peace", which will give us better GPUs with better prices in this round. That's all that counts to us frequent consumers of GPUs.

    EDIT:
We can always go back to yield, die-size, transistors (and other BS) that a few has been speculating about for a good while now. We can again speculate why a price-cut is not possible for nVidia, and deny the reality on hand, but who cares why and how it happed?

Looks like they've already decided to drop the prices by up to $20 on each card.

AMD has responded in another way as well:

And the game continues on both fronts. It's a great time to be in the market for a new GPU though.

That's not much of a response. Even if it was true, what point are they trying to make exactly? You can buy NVIDIA cards for these prices, so who cares?

You ordered a card right BEFORE a new launch?

My current card died last week, it's been hard enough getting on without it. So I ordered the 470 after my regular site dropped the price. I thought that might have been the Price cut.

Nope it was only to lure in extra customers, the next day they drop the price again

The card went from 256, to 221, then that same day to 199. Today they dropped it to 189.

some stores do price match up to 30 days
cause they know you can just return the card for the price you paid, and buy it back cheaper right off the shelf. but as long as you can return it as new to avoid restocking fees and whatever else. it might be worth a call to see if they can do it.

I know, but with my nearly useless pc it's annoying. I'm hoping it arrives tomorrow so I can get back to my project work.

Last thing I want to do is get it, post it back. Then re-order and wait another week for it arrive.

Ah well It's my own fault for being so impulsive. Cost me an extra £40. Lesson learnt.

thats why i think its worth a call, they know they would have to go through the process of shipping a product back out. you might be able to simply have them price match it for current, minus a cut for restocking fee, and walk away with a portion of the savings.

actually.... worse. you just bought a card where the competition is going to release something real soon in the same price range that can change the whole price/performance ratio of all those cards and yet you decide to move forward

I would call that real dedicated to flavor, even many will call me a hard AMD fanboy but I do run all Intel at home for the moment.... with ati off course since Nvidia nocked me down for a very long time with rebrands.

Anxiously awaiting to see how the 6870 perform's against the 470 BUT the EVGA GTX 470 is 229 and is a KILLER value.

Good, this is what we get when there is real competition. I hope they beat each other up this round, for the sake of the consumers (ie. me).

Nah, the place i got it form it well known for price gouging for the first few weeks.

And the 470 is a good replacement for far cheaper than what I got my old card for.

my friends corsair hx620 started acting out and wouldnt boot with his pc, an amd 6400+, gigabyte m770-ud3, single hdd and a gtx 460 oc but when we tested it in my sys with a gtx 470 and 2 drives in raid 0 it started just fine... so i would not be so worried about picking a gtx 470...the heat is not so bad, it was 1000 times worse with my old 8800gtx

That is a HOT price for the GTX470. Actually, I'm stopped by my quest for silence as well as fear of new stuff being released soon.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm delighted the GTX470 has dropped that much. That's a ton of performance for $260. But at the same time that doesn't stop me from having thoughts about how nvidia exactly is making money by selling them as cheap as that. Or how much board partners are losing. Or something.

i have to see alot of reviews for overclocking first. its interesting the 6850 are almost all custom, while all 6870 are reference cooling.
I don't know anymore, 470 with this price cut looks so much attractive and it can easily be overclocked to 900Mhz from 607Mhz that is almost 50% overclock.
