We can solve the screen looking messed up by turning off the monitor?

Yes, as opposed to 1920x1200, which will usually result in vantage refusing to allow you to run the extreme preset.

If you're benching, you don't care how the screen looks, or if there's even a picture at all. You only care about if you can run it or not. This shouldn't be a terribly foreign concept to you considering a position you used to hold... You usually can't force 1920x1200, but you can often force 1920x1080 as an unsupported driver mode. When you do, the picture on the screen is virtually unintelligable, but at least you'd be able to run a 3d app.

In other words, for a 3d bencher on a 20.1" monitor, the difference between 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 is the difference between being able to run the bench and not being able to. Clear enough?

I guess to gamers etc this all sounds illogical, but there are plenty of benchers that I know that went out to buy monitors specifically to run the extreme preset in vantage. 1920x1080 instead of 1920x1200 would pretty much make that unnecessary.

Much ado about one little (poorly worded) sentence...

You all sure that's not a trailer for FarCry 3
exact same thing that i was thinking. the lighting especially made me think of that. the lighting in FC2 is very similar actually.

Precisely, it'll probably bring every current(and about to be released card for that matter) top end card to it's knees by the time it's released.

I feel like with CPU's we have plenty of power to spare and work with, but with GPU's we can never have enough graphical power underneath the hood. Perhaps one day they will be powerful enough to hold on their own for a while(that and game makers/programmers become more clever/efficient with the way their doing things)

smart of them to go for a crysis look-alike scene... i just hope it SOMEWHAT resembles actual gameplay, not like vantage which is more of a 3d render benchmark than a 3d game benchmark...

i dont see any characters or explosions either... hope the final bench has lots of action

    no point doing that

    netbook resolution / 720P / 1080P and more

default will remain the same as vantage.

Don't worry about the resolution - we've learned a lot from 3DMark Vantage feedback and I assure you that your monitor resolution will not be an issue with 3DMark 11, no matter the preset you are benching.

    And as to the physX issues with Vantage, the guidance has been for a long time to run the benchmark with "PPU off" (or GPU PhysX disabled in drivers). As to 3DMark11, we already made this statement;

"Just to clear things up for this thread, 3DMark 11 will run exactly same on all DirectX 11 hardware from all vendors, always using the same tests and workloads running on standard DirectX 11 API. Further detail about the tests in the form of a whitepaper will be available when the benchmark is launched."

do you have naked babes this time?
that should be present in any gamers benchmark as its a powerful motivator for buying "hot" cards....

temperature dependent tessellation, sounds like a perfect way to test that feature. as things get colder, tessellation becomes more obvious, lol
