Latest Steam Hardware Survey, careful how you read it.

    http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/

The problem is this image http://cdn.store.steampowered.com/pu...c_videomfg.gif has not changed for the last 4 months. (added image to the bottom of the post). The image used for "DX10/11 Systems (Vista/Win7 + DX10/11 GPU)" indicates that it represents May 2009 - May 2010. I suspect this is just a lazy web admin but I could always be wrong. I simply can not accept that market share has stagnated for the last 4 months in a row. If you tunnel in you will see changes so it is just the front page of the survey that I have issue with. It is a bit problematic when people write articles about market share and reference this as factual.

    June survey numbers http://forums.hexus.net/graphics-car...re-survey.html

    July survey numbers http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/s...july-2010/9427

August survey numbers http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?p=30392504 check post number 4.

Image from Steam survey captured October 6, 2010

...that's not instead of AMD. Nothing's even been launched under the AMD name yet. "Other" is things like S3 and Matrox systems.

If you want to do the work just look up the detailed statstics, it reaches back till may.

Its more likely that people stay loaly to the brand and only upgrade form ati to ati. This doesn't change the total percentage. I did this for the last 6 years....

The legacy of G80 and G92 glory days for nVidia, but if Northern Islands gen is as good as advertised, i think AMD will get better share next year, those 8800 GTs, 9600 GTs, and renamed variants will need to be replaced sooner or later.

I must say, if DX11 cards are 12% of the overall GPUs out there, and AMD has 75% of that market, that's a load of DX11 CPUs AMD has sold. NVidia are obviously dominant in DX10 land, although the this is mainly down to legacy 8800/9800 generic cards.

Knowing allot of gamers, and seeing how they don't upgrade as often as people really into hardware; I don't find it that strange that it hasn't changed much. The usually wait until they actually have a reason to upgrade.

This, and I would claim that lots of them do not really even care what they have inside their lovely case. They like the games, not the hardware.

True, I still use my G80, just because I can and don't need anything else (for now)

I'm not too overly surprised either I must say.

So what some of you are saying is that even though month to month the percentages have changed it has no effect on how the graph looks

Exactly. It hasn't been updated. The same image has been showed for ages, as far as I understood.

I really don't understand why it hasn't when month to month have shown some differences.

The numbers seem to be exact same as back in August for example. And I'm talking about the pie graph as shown in the OP.

The graph is the same since June 2010 but when you click on it to see individual cards from one month to the next they do show activity.

God guys... why are you bickering over a pie chart when you have hard numbers to do your own charts...

Note: In the detailed statistics many cards are not listed and put into "other", they are mostly NV cards (Geforce 4 and 5xxx series). Since this cards where quite popular its possible that a very good part of those "other" cards are NV cards.

Also my numbers don't add up to full 100% since steam sometimes don't provide any numbers for some cards. But even there own numbers don't add up to 100% for anything then September.

Honestly, how hard is it for them to fully update their own survey? You try to do it yourself then indicate it's not 100% indicating that its something they have to do.
