Looks like the flickering problem on my Samsung 305T Plus has been resolved..

Yesterday I accidentally left the monitor on (in stand by mode) after I had turned the computer off for a few hours, and when I turned the computer back on, the flickering had vanished

It's now been almost a day since that time, and there's still no flickering.

I haven't opened the box for my HP ZR24W yet, but if the flickering problem doesn't come back in the next few days, I'm returning it, and cancelling my repair order to Samsung.

Of course now I probably won't ever turn my monitor off again. I'll just let it idle in stand by, since it only uses 2w.

Yes I just had my power supply on my Viewsonic VP2030B (amazing monitor) go bad, it was taking over 5 minutes to power up. $1.96 later for 11 brand new capacitors and now its works fine and looks great with no problems.

Monitors do die, but if your willing to solder then you can fix a bulk of the issues fairly cheap.

    -----
as I told my father when we took the monitor apart. its already not working, worst case I loose $2 and the monitor still don't work when we are done.

Anyway, the problem returned unfortunately, so I had to send it to Samsung for repair. Hopefully I'll get it back early next week.

So, my wife is onboard with us getting a 30" display (I needed her buy-in otherwise no cigar). Im just waiting on a good deal from Dell before I pull the trigger on a U3011. Im in no rush, my NEC 90GX2 has worked flawlessly for years. I can wait, not too long though, for a better sale from Dell.

I love my NECs as well...their reliability is second to none. They cost more, but are worth it.

Damn! And I was combing the [H]forums for a such a deal when I bought mine. Oh well $174.75 more for mine + 0% APR for a year isn't so bad.

My U3011 arrived yesterday. I have not had a chance to mess with it too much, but out of the box the thing is rad.

U3011 has better colours, 3007WFP-HC has less input lag, but has a slightly (8ms vs 7ms) slower matrix. I would not consider 305T at this point.

I've been using my U3011 for about two weeks now and I am pleased! I've owned a bunch of different monitors and this was a move up from a U2410. Using an EVGA GTX 580 and this is nice!

    Great thread.

Really this is the last thing I could see as a beneficial upgrade to my system, coming from my u2211h ultra sharp (which I love) but the 2560x1600 or 1440 would just be awesome for gaming. Not sure about all that 30" for gaming though, to much screen real estate to be scanning with your eyes.

Personally I did 19 -> 21 -> 24 -> 30 (went dual monitor as soon as I bought my 2nd one and just kept replacing the smaller one) and I can tell you that it is the upgrade that you'll enjoy the most of out everything, except if you're switching from a 5400rpm hdd to a ssd.

As for the extra scanning, I often find myself looking all around my screen without having to use my mouse to pan around as much. This is good because it helps relax my mouse hand more often. This is just one of the advantages of having more pixels to look at.
