3DMark11 delayed, will be launched in 2010

Finnish hardware site Muropaketti.com contacted Futuremark and asked about current situation of development of upcoming DirectX 11 benchmark 3DMark11.

Benchmark product manager Ilkka Koho confirmed to Muropaketti that 3DMark11 will be late from original Q3/2010 launch schedule stated in the official press release back in May but the benchmark will be launched before end of 2010.

    Futuremark press release:

3DMark 11 will be released in the third quarter of 2010. There will be a free edition available at launch. 3DMark 11 will join existing Futuremark benchmarks 3DMark Vantage for DirectX 10 and 3DMark06 for DirectX 9. Please visit the official website for more details: http://www.3dmark.com/

We already have 5850, 5870, GTX 460 1G and GTX 470 that do DX11 quite well. Besides by starting Q4 only the HD69xx will be released that also to combat GTX 460 others will release later/late Q4.

No idea when new GF110/etc products are gonna come by.

i wouldnt call the 5000 series as good enough for tessellation. it can do it, but i dont think it can do it noticeably, without a noticeable framerate drop

ha, i almost forgot about the new 3dmark. i hope it'll be better than vantage and 3dmark06. 3dmark05 was the last one that was refreshing and had state of the art graphics at that time. 3dmark06 was just a pimped 3dmark05, and vantage, well, i think "kate nash" says enough definately the worst scene in the history of 3dmark ever

Tessellation is a major load for any card. Of course framerates are going to take a hit. No card current or future will be immune to a framerate drop when tessellation is enabled.

which is why i said noticeable, a 10% loss is not noticeable to many, 40% is.

Would be super awesome if there was no CPU test but just brute force GPU benchmarks. Either that or a CPU test that scales to 128+ threads.. just in case!

Agreed. Now that multicore is the norm I am hopeful they will go GPU only.

cpu score should definitely not be part of the final score calculation, but nothing wrong with having a benchmark for cpus. but then begs the question, when will the gpu tests be cpu limited? will you want to have just 3ghz duel core, or will it be happy with either a quad, or super fast duel, or be biased to one and hurt the other.

so 3dmark2011 will basically come out in 2012...

    FAAAAIIIILLLLL

something went horribly horribly wrong when madonion became a proper company and was renamed to futuremark...
their benchmarks have been getting worse ever since, and have been delayed more and more with ever successive release...

how could they do a better job when they coded for fun in their free time, than now with dozens of coders working full time and a massive portal that draws advertising income...

^cause the cost to develop a game in going up as fast as technology?

i think they should leverage their community for things that take time and come out like crap. imagine if they has people build the models used in the games that are not super important, but still needed to give a good effect (like trees). offer winners a free copy and their name added to the credits, should be more than enough incentive to let the creative people out here get some fun and show off their skills. and hopefully this also means the games look much better in the end too.
