I disconnect the power, remove the cmos battery. After 30 seconds I push the cmos battery back in, turn the power back on. It seems to start up, but then abruptly shuts off. Then subsequent presses to the power switch on the motherboard will give me the flash of power again but never turn on.

I'm assuming the motherboard needs to be rmaed?

Just took the CPU out. Now it's only the two power cables connected to the motherboard. It seems to be doing the same thing a flash of power then it turns off. Does that mean it might be the CPU, or would the motherboard give me an error and stay on?

    Thank you for your help!
I know this is an old thread, but I'm wondering what you had to do to fix it, as I have the exact same problem with my UD7 v2, and I'm a little annoyed, to say the least

Any suggestions will be VERY welcome.

If you guys are still having trouble you may need to do a extended clear on the cmos.

Shut the system down remove the power cord from the back of the psu.
Press the power button the case for 20 sec to remove all power from motherboard.
Remove the cmos battery for 20 min.
Install the jumper for clear cmos and leave on for 20 min.
    Remove jumper and install battery.
On boot up try to enter bios and load optimized defaults.

If still no boot Try with minumal hardare only cpu 1 stick of ram and video card.

If still fail to boot. Remove battery and install jumper on clear cmos for up to 24hrs. (this has worked and saved board from being RMAed)

    Hi acebmxer,

Thanks for the info, but I can now add that I actually started the PC with no heat sink, just for a split second (as it's a 980x), and it worked, but as soon as I re attached the Swiftech water plate, it won't...there weird thing is, it worked last week

EDIT, just tried something else, I backed off the 4 thumbscrews holding the water plate on, by 2 turns, then powered on, it made 1 short beep, then turned off, then started again with the 1 short beep, and it just loops thru this. If I tighten the thumbscrews, then the thing wont do anything but light up a few of the onboard LED's...............

    Cheers

It the system will boot or attempt the boot with the heatsink removed (Highly not recommend!!!) but will not start or attemped with it installed. Could be a couple of things. First is you are over tightening the heatsink Try to lossen it up and see if it starts. There could be a short somewhere with the heat sink or possibly bad cpu.

If you have the stock heatsink you could try that just to check things out.

    Hi acebmxer,

I edited my post after your reply....I did loosen off the heat sink, caused different problems, WTF, I think I'll "mothball" this one for awhile, too complicated to disassembled easily.
Just as well I have a good 2600K system to back up with.

Roll on the 2011 chips coming soon

    Hi acebmxer,

    Hopefully you're still there, somewhere.

OK, what do you think of this problem solving....I have stripped everything off the motherboard, I did your extended cmos clearing, pushed the button and it was the same, so I unplugged the main power plugs, tested the PSU (it's only very new) then plugged in only the 24 pin plug, and it worked, as soon as I plug in the 8 pin plug, it starts the quick off & looping...tried a different PSU, same thing.

I guess the next thing is to take the board right out of the case, and breadboard it, to try & determine whether there is a short to the case.

But I reckon the motherboard is a bin job $415, only last's 12 months

I think you might have a bad cpu. You can try pullling the board from the case and see what happens. but the fact that you losen or remove the heatsink and the system started to respond. I would test with another cpu if you have access to one.

That's the next step, but with the cpu, ram, graphics cards all out of the board, and there's NO beep's at all, and that it doesn't like any plug in the 8 pin socket...surely it's the board.

    I'll let you know......

    Thanks for the replies

    Another reply,

OK, ALL testing has now been completed, I removed the UD7 from the HAF-X, put it on the kitchen bench, connected a good PSU to it, with both 24pin & 8 pin plugs installed, the "beep" speaker, and nothing else....there were NO beeps, and it just loops every couple of seconds, all the beep speaker could do was a faint click, before it restarted. Tried with no 8 pin plug, seemed to be OK, as far as the looping was concerned, but still no posting beeps.

Next test, I installed the 980x onto an ASUS P6T WS board with a Corsair H70, booted up just fine, recognised the cpu as a 980x, so thank goodness it's OK.

So, I think I will place an order for a G1 Sniper, and start all over again....at least the Sniper will look GOOD in the HAF-X nVidia Edition case

I'd still like to know what made it die there's no visible burn, or arcing marks anywhere....

    Thanks for you help, acebmxer.

    Hello

I need your help and you are my last hope.

I accidentally damaged diode and a capacitor on UD5 rev 2.0 motherboard. You can see where on attached pictures. Can I ask you to send me a photo of the whole back of the board and another of the detailed area so I can see if I haven't damaged something else and what capacitor I need to buy? Or maybe somebody knows exactly what this capacitor parameters are? I found out the diode is BAT54a-7-f (KL2 X4).

    Thanks in advance

    Demetrius
