I was going to get Thermalright X silent.

But I am worried about this, since I need it blow up/down

X-silent rattling issue: http://www.overclock.net/9232296-post32.html - here is one of ehume's posts confirming this. I've also read this from some other source, but I cannot remember where.

Ok. Long story short. I put all my stuff away and ignored this for awhile.

    And now back to it.

    Martin has some testing... http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=263193

Basically confirms everything I compiled in this thread. Save he doesn't like the motor noise of the gentle typhoons (say whaaat!) meh I know it's subjective.

Anywhoo... there is one addition I found. Back in my hunt for 140mm fans I found the silverstone air penetrator and well its a nice 120mm fan. And now after waiting awhile I see they have 140mm and even 180mm versions out now. Nice!

So I shall be ordering one and checking them out. After I already ordered 4 140mm NZXT's.... doh!

Got the Silverstone AP141 last night.

Like all the other 140mm versions of 120mm variants (Enermax for example) it does not have the same build quality. The fin design is different and is made out of a flimsier material. The caseing is the same though and the motor looks the same.

Performance wise it appears to do pretty descent. I haven't mounted on the RAD yet but open air performance is very good and while 12v is louder then I like it's quieter then expected. 7v puts out the same amount of air (subjectivelly) as it's 120mm counterpart at 12v. 5v I can not hear it over the water noise of the Apogee XT waterblock.

However at 7v and 12v I noticed some motor resonance that to me was quite annoying. However putting a little bit of pressure on the center hub made it go away and it wasn't always present. Could be a QC issue or just a defect to mine possibly. I will see if this noise resonates through the rad when mounted.

Depending on how the fan performs on my RAD this may be my choice 140mm fan!

I'm curious about this. I've been curious to move from my 360mm ran to a 560mm and I'd need to know about fans. Hmm...

The 180mm AP181 fans SUCK as far as rad fans go. They lack the static pressure.

    I await your results!
    You must [not] advance.

Funny you say that. I was looking for a good 140mm fan to complement my 120mm GT's, and I came to the same conclusion and ordered one like an hour ago. Gonna slap one of my 120mm GT's on it.

This is the cheapest one I found if anyone is interested. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...509&CatId=2216
Make sure you don't use google checkout to get the cheap shipping... for some reason it lists ground shipping as cheapest option through google checkout, so I used paypal.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this.

But the results are finally in.

The Silverstone AP141 is the best 140mm fan I can find. at 12v my temps were 1° cooler than the 120mm Gentle Typhoon 1400rpm fans, but was considerably louder.

The Silversont AP141 @ 7v is .5-1°C warmer than the 120mm Gentle Typhoon 1400rpm rans, but was a bit quieter.

With a fan controller or some other method of fine tuning the voltage to the AP141 and they would be about the same as the Gentle Typhoon's.

I am dissapointed I couldn't find a 140mm fan that performed better than the gentle typhoons but at least now I have a fan on there that doesn't need fan adapters and performas similarily.
