    Why I Hate California

The Commies here have instituted there own version of "Cap and Trade" Also known as "Cap and Tax." I ran 4 rigs Thursday and Friday last week. Saturday, I fired up 2 more rigs. Basically, I ran 4-6 rigs for no more than 5 days. I got this energy alert from PG&E yesterday.

    "Dear Valued PG&E Customer,
This message is an Energy Alert about your electric use from Pacific Gas and Electric Company. You signed up to receive alerts from PG&E when you are moving from a lower-priced tier to a higher-priced tier of electric use.
The State of California has adopted a policy to encourage energy conservation where utilities like PG&E charge residential customers on a tiered rate structure. Each month, all customers start at Tier 1 where energy costs the least. But as you use more electricity, you go from Tier 1 to Tier 2, and can go all the way up to Tier 5. The higher the tier, the more you’re paying for a kilowatt hour of electricity.
Based on your actual electric use to date, you have crossed into Tier 3 pricing for this billing period, and you are projected to cross into Tier 5 by the end of the billing period."

The last time I hit tier 4 my bill was about $1250. for about 3.2 million points. This alert comes after putting up 600,000 points. The politicians (criminals) have killed distributed computing projects in this state! And no. I can't get a business rate. I've tried twice.

Are you sure it's the politicians who are costing you more by increasing energy taxes and not the fact that California has a serious inability to produce or import enough electricity and sees rolling blackouts regularly, thus causing a supply and demand situation where those who increase the demand disproportionately need to pay more?

I wonder though, maybe you can try calling up your local power company and telling them what the power is used for. They might give you a better rate, you never know. You can also try calling up a local media outlet if that doesn't work...

    Just for comparision:
This june was the hottest on record in NH.
    I run 5 machines here.
    4 dual socket and a AMD 940
    In addition there are 4 AC's in the house;
    2-5250's in the bedrooms
a 6000 in the living room
a 6500 for the downstairs area where 3 of the PC's are.
There were 3of the 4 AC's running at any one time that whole month
    My bill was $355.00

It's the criminals that claim to be politicians!!!! We haven't had "rolling blackout" threats since 2000. PG&E doesn't care. They do what they are told. Smart meter. Smart Grid = death of America as we know it.

Global Climate Change= Global Fraud that will enrich the so-called Elites and bring the death of the middle class. Do your own research!!!

You sound like me on one of my "mad" moods!
    Very valid points.
"They" know a modern home in the USA will take over 1200KWH/M to run, that we like our convieniences and have now found a way to generate more income.
I max at app 2600+ KWH/M in the summer and also see a stepped charge above 1200 KWH/M..
The only way out I see is solar panels or a wind turbine.
Wind turbine isn't practical here and they've kept the price of solar panels so high that it's a 25+ year payback for parts that don't last 25 years so it's also not practical.
Solar needs to drop by a 1/2 to be worth doing.

LOL. Thanks for understanding MM. I'd say I'm in a permanently "mad mood." My hardware could contribute much. The powers that be dictating "power rates" limit me to less than 1 rig for a few days a month.

    Beleive me I understand.
I just sold off one Harpertown rig and gave away another becausae I couldn't afford to run them.
I'm now at the stage of looking at power consumption on all the machines.
In WCG my harpertowns would make maybe 30,000PPD while pulling a constant 320w.
I have a 24 core(2x12 core) AMD MC machine that does app 52,000PPD while taking 282W measured on a kill a watt.
The top Intel X5690's make over 85,000PPD at stock and pull app 350w.
    The SR2 rig with X5690's OC'd to 4200 making 110,000PPD pulls 640w..
You pay a lot for that last 25,000PPD..

Power cost is skyrocketing in Canada also, at least in Ontario. About two days ago, frontline news for local newspaper was 40% energy bill hike in next 2 years.

There must come a point in the charging structure where running your own generator is a possibility especially if it runs on cheap fuel or old cooking oil etc. What would they pay you for your excess power?

If I recall the reason for the rolling blackouts was the electric utility companies protesting the incredibly intrusive meddling from the California State government by staging their maintenance down times to coincide. Damn glad I don't live there & it makes Mass seem a bit more reasoned at times. However, we do have those that wish to make Mass California East!!

This thread is hardly pointless. There used to be a time when production depended on ones ability to buy hardware. Now it's controlled by a Government regulated utility that tells you when and if you can turn on a computer. I'd buy my power from Texas if it weren't for illegal monopolies.

NH is the place I think of the least taxes, Most Freedoms, Least Regulation, and for some reason its suffered the least when it came to current Economic Recession/Depression we are having.

Gee I wonder why that is.

What are you guys paying for rates per kWh?

I'm currently paying an effective blended rate of $0.1053 / kWh.

We pay a lower rate for our first 800 kWh, then the rate bumps up.

Here in Virginia, the State Corporation Commission regulates utilities. It's a good system that protects consumers from unfair pricing practices.

We can opt to buy electricity from a different provider than the one who provides the transmission services. This makes our billing complicated, but the idea is to create a market for power generation separate from distribution.
