Boy that info was old. As am I. Currently my kids have taken over my desktops. They are both sporting matching GTX1080's. Last Christmas I got everyone Oculuses and thus GTX1080's. My eldest is some sort of CSGO champion gold label something or other. Me I work and shoot real guns. Build Comps as needed.
So a few weeks on and it looks like my speed rates are pretty random. I found a way to check the speed at the same server as before and I'm currently getting the same speed as DOCSIS 2.0. I'm finding that the connection either drops below the speeds I had with DOCSIS 2.0 or at the same but never substantially exceeding.
Compare that too...

yes but look at the ping, you have 1/3 the latency which will help plenty.
Indeed, very true.

Conclusion:
I've had more consistency with connection speed on the previous standard modems, the upgrade has seen literally zero improvement and if anything it's a little slower and it's definitely not worth the cash to get the next gen tech just yet.
Obviously, my service provider may b e at fault but upon asking their tech support they claimed to be fully supporting DOCSIS 3.0 and I am definitely running on their DOCSIS 3.0 connection. So it's unclear if the technology isn't worth it (as in, this generation may get skipped over) or if my service provider isn't getting the most out of this tech since my internet experience is exactly the same as when I used a DOCSIS 2.0 modem.
