Which laptop do you recomend for extreme mobility and long lasting battery?

    Hi there!

I need some advice, i need a laptop for work / study with long lasting battery (+6 hours with average use)

Would be nice if the display is at least 14 ", but not least than 13.3 "

Also would be nice if it has a good resolution (720p at least)

4gb of memory, dont care about optical drive really,

What do you recommend? the most important thing is the battery and the weight

What are your opinions about the asus ul30vt a1??

    Thanks!

I have the Asus UL30A and it's a great little computer. I get a little over 9 hours browsing, and about 5.5-6 hours watching 720p mkv

So I can tell you that you'll be very pleased with the Asus UL30VT as the specs are even better.

I've had a VAIO Z620D since about april 2009, battery is still going strong (ive had battery care enabled the whole time, charges up to max 80%)

at 80%, for me the battery lasts around 3.5- 4 hours, usually closer to 4.

At 100% charge it easily lasts me 5 hours and sometimes into 6.

This is with wireless enabled, doing some browsing, schoolwork and such. Lasts about the same or longer with my phone tethered as a bluetooth modem.

Love the thing, if you can afford one of the new ones (price increased?!), I'd say go for it

i have the UL80VT which is very nice and if i set it to complete power saving i can get 10h+ out of it. normal use about 8h. thats with a 6cell i believe battery which makes the weight rather compfortable
the fastboot feature is nice too. asus has done a good job on those.

the newer ul series are nice too

ThinkPad X series or Vario Z

What i hate about the air, is that it has a crappy cooler, one can't remove or replace $h!7, and the HW configuration for a 2010 (almost '11) laptop is poor (IMO), srly max 2GB ram and 1.4GHz-11"/1.86GHz-13" (can be upgraded to 1.6 on the 11" but still) core 2 for $999.

    Ive had many a Z...

If budget is no issue and you prefer a PC, get a Z.

If budget is an issue, the Asus or the Acer timelines do the job.

If you are neutral or like the Mac, the Air is phenomenal.

I have the 1.6Ghz, 4GB, 128GB 11" and nothing about it feels underpowered or slow, it isnt running warm at all, and it is by far the best subnote Ive ever seen, much less owned (and Ive seen them all and owned more than, I would bet, 90% of the population) My first subnote was the Sony C1. Ive had the UX, the Librettos, the OQO, pretty much every Fujitsu, the Kojinsha, multiple Vilivs, the netbooks, the Samsung Q1, the Sony X, S and Z, the original Acer tablet (one of my all time faves)

On the Mac side Ive had old PowerBooks, newer MacBooks and now the new Air. The Air is the best portable Ive owned *by far* and Ive been an IT pro and industry insider for 20 years (including a decade at Microsoft), so Im no "Mac fanboy". On my YouTube channel I posted up a WoW vid on the Air.

the ram can be upgraded at time of order to 4gb and there are already 3rd party manufacturers developing improved ssd's for it. What else can you upgrade in a laptop?

I just bought an Acer TimelineX 4820TG. It's fantastic. Core i5-460m Radeon 5650 1G switchable video. Overclocks well, and with a 120GB SSD costs just under $1000. Battery life is 5-6 hours depending on usage of course. I'm sure with some tweaks to be relatively extreme for the power saving you can squeeze even more out of it. It's also very thin and light.

The build quality is excellent overall!

i got a ul30vt for 6 months now and it rocks when it comes to battery life...
i dont know of any culv laptop that beats it battery wise, and then it comes overclocked at 1.73ghz and can be manually pushed to 2ghz
    AND its very affordable...

the built quality isnt great, but above average.
the shiny surfaces suck... and there are some other small issues like the super reflective display, again which all laptops have, and bad viewing angles, again its common...
the only upgrade to this is lenovo or apple, and they cost a LOT more, and apple actually has worse battery life...

oced battery life is 6+ hours with 3g/wifi and browsing the web, about the same for watching videos, and 12h+ when only reading and writing text

    Some other things to check:

check your ram and hard drive is fully seated. You may have to remove the respective covers. GROUND YOURSELF AGAINST STATIC!

I think for what he's looking for, I'd recommend the MacBook Pro 13, I guess.

They really can pull 7-10 hours of battery life, not to mention the hardware is decent enough. The form factor is certainly better than most comparable laptops.

I'm happy with my Envy 14-- it doesn't quite fit the MacBook Pro's form factor, and certainly can't meet the battery life, but it blows the MacBook Pro away in performance for the price-point.

Not to mention the 1600x900 screen is definitely way better than the MacBook Pro's 1280x800.
