    Mr Shoota will lead the way.
    His board has a newer bios and we should all flash to that newer version.the easiest way to grab an image is flashrom using the abobe guide.
    Mr shoota,could you make a valid image file of your board so as to flash to the newer bios?
    I bet we could solve the "entering the bios" issue.
    fingers crossed.
    http://www.hermann-uwe.de/blog/flash...using-flashrom
    Install it:

    $ apt-get install flashrom

    Detect whether flashrom knows about your chipset/mainboard/BIOS chip:

    $ flashrom

    Read the BIOS image into a file:

    $ flashrom -r backup.bin

    Write a BIOS image (proprietary or LinuxBIOS) on the ROM chip:

    $ flashrom -wv newbios.bin

    I haven't rebooted mine in forever. I will be (power cord adjustments!) and I'll check my BIOS rev then. Mine doesn't have the enter BIOS issue, that works fine.

    I have to admit the BIOS thing is a intimidating. Is there a chance I could screw up the BIOS on my board?

    Reading it? Very unlikely.
    Writing it? Heck yeah.

    So you've got the safe part

    This is what i get.I am now making an image of my bios.
    will get back.

    amijim@amijim-MCP55:~$ sudo flashrom
    flashrom v0.9.2-r1028 on Linux 2.6.35-22-generic (x86_64), built with libpci 3.0.0, GCC 4.4.4, little endian
    flashrom is free software, get the source code at http://www.flashrom.org

    Calibrating delay loop... OK.
    No coreboot table found.
    Found chipset "NVIDIA MCP55", enabling flash write... OK.
    This chipset supports the following protocols: Non-SPI.
    Found chip "SST SST49LF160C" (2048 KB, LPC) at physical address 0xffe00000.
    ===
    This flash part has status UNTESTED for operations: ERASE
    The test status of this chip may have been updated in the latest development
    version of flashrom. If you are running the latest development version,
    please email a report to flashrom@flashrom.org if any of the above operations
    work correctly for you with this flash part. Please include the flashrom
    output with the additional -V option for all operations you tested (-V, -Vr,
    -Vw, -VE), and mention which mainboard or programmer you tested.
    Thanks for your help!

    I have uploaded the 0.9.6-ec bios version t6o megaupload but it seems to be unavailable and waits server confirmation.
    Can anyone load it at any BIOS editor and give us some clues?

    Maybe. I'll give it a go tomorrow if I get a chance..

    Also, in your little tutorial above, shouldn't $ have been #?

    If not then that's pretty scary

    I just got home to see my X550 video card had arrived. So I got my Beast to POST. Here is my BIOS info:
    BIOS Version: Argo 1.0.0-EC x64
    Build Date: 12/07/2007 9:23:21
    Core Version: 4.6.1

    I'm going to burn a DVD with Ubuntu on it and go from there. Hopefully I'll be using 10.10 Server x64.

    You have a point. If the command prompt is only a $ then those commands are being run as user, not as root. If that level of hardware interference can be done with only user permissions then that's a REAL worry.

    So I've got Ubuntu installed. I'm reading the guide at the moment. I want get into the GUI. Maybe the server edition doesn't have one.

    Update: I'm installing the desktop to the server:

    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

    I used the desktop one, not the server version. Easier.

    If you go the other way, starting with the server edition and install the desktop package on top of that, you'll get a leaner system. It's just a little more hassle getting set up is all.

    I didn't select any bonus services to start up either. The IT guy in me was wanting to, but I resisted playing with all the goodies. "Stay on target..."

    Update: I have a GUI desktop running, using it now actually! I'm trying to get BOINC to download some WUs. I'm getting the following:

    Thu 11 Nov 2010 08:14:00 PM PST World Community Grid Message from server: Resent lost result HFCC_L3_00363055_L3_0001_0
    Thu 11 Nov 2010 08:14:00 PM PST World Community Grid [error] App version has unsupported platform i686-pc-linux-gnu
    Thu 11 Nov 2010 08:14:00 PM PST World Community Grid [error] No application found for task: i686-pc-linux-gnu 611 ; discarding

    So I put this on its on own profile to run HCC. Just waiting on the client to be able to see that change. I told it to update, but it seems hung up on this. Common? Thanks guys.

    I need to get a manager going now. I want to be able to put away the keyboard and mouse.

    Update: I got the remote_hosts.cfg going. That works for checking in every now and then.

    Update2: "11/11/2010 11:20:49 PM World Community Grid Reporting 16 completed tasks, requesting new tasks
    "

    Hi there,
    you have to be log in as root,but i did the trick by adding the sudo command infront of the instrucions.
    retro,please report capability to enter in the bios by hitting the DEL button.
