guys im having a memory issue atm

    been running 8gb just got another 4gb its hynix, HYMP5512P72BP4-Y5 AB-A 1gb

the board will boot but it comes up with gnu grub which ive never seen before

give me the option to boot to ubuntu or run memtest

if i select ubuntu it just reboots and goes to the grub again

choosing memtest its runs for several seconds maybe then reboots...

but i noticed as it was running memtest the the ram speed is 533mhz and the timings are 4-4-4-18 i think

where as the ram ive got is 667mhz and 5-5-5-15...

could it be this hynix ram cant run at this speed/timing but the other 8gb can?

i cant get in the bios to change it

and why wouldn't the bios automatically change it?

if i take the battery out to clear it will that work?

    thanks

Try to boot with Hynix only and run memtest. Probably that memory is bad.
Opterons can handle different speed memory modules (but you have to have same speed modules per CPU).
Before I was running 667MHz on three CPU's and 400MHz on last one

no its not the ram that the different speed the board has the speed at 533 and 4-4-4-18

ALL the ram is 667 5-5-5-15

but i cant get into the bios to change it?

So Hynix is screw up. Default BIOS setup for memory speed is auto, remove battery and wait couple minutes, if your memory is OK, it will run @ 667 without any changes to that (auto).

well the working memory is running at 533 with timings 4-4-4-18

should be 677 5-5-5-15 so its a bios issue

i left the battery out for half hour..... no change

Put the Hynix in CPU_0's slots, maybe it being the 'primary' ram may force the other ram to run at the slower timings?

I only see something like this on my system once: when I have damaged B2 installed in socket0 and B3's in rest. No matter what I set in BIOS (auto or 667), my memory was running @ 533.

Then the Hynix RAM is either bad or incorrect for this board. Sounds like you did the selective interchange.

Rule #1 of owning an Arima: Never, I mean, never, shut it down
Rule #2 of owning an Arima: If there is ever a time to shut down the Arima, refer to Rule #1

I couldn't remember what the login ID was to get in. Phew, out of a whim I tried a funky one...my screen name on here...huh....I don't remember setting it to that, but it makes sense in hindsight

an update on this hynix ram....

i took a closer look at it earlier and ive found that 2-3 of the smaller resistors are missing/broken off of 1 or more of the sticks... thats why it wont work properly!!

ive had nothing but trouble with all the ram ive had off ebay...

but now ive just bought tested and working ram on this board off AXm77

Rebooting is fine. But man with the shutting down, I always have issues getting it running again. It never fires right up. Sometimes it takes a couple flips of the PSU in order to get it to come up.

Hopefully this new RAM will work. Can you RMA the Hynix stuff? I've seen that brand around work and its ok, just super cheap and not very high performance. Our cheapo at works tries to buy that crap and I refuse to use it. I want a name I know, Kingston, G.Skill

I think everyone who used them were on WCG with them. I wondered how well they would do on F@H -bigadv but never tried.

Sorry, but 8101's are no go for Arima. Install client v.7 and run -smp only.

Mine boots and shuts down just fine. It's also looking for a new home. It also accepts decent video cards.

I've been gifted a set of 8347HE's, should be here by end of next week. Assuming no issues with my RAM/board, I should have the 1.06 BIOS image up next weekend.
