Question OCZ Vertex 2 Extended VS RealSSD

Looking for a SSD to put in my laptop. Out of these two which one would you choose? I haven't been keeping up with all the SSD stuff recently unfortunately. My desktop has the Gen2 Intel drive. I will most likely be getting a 120/128GB drive. Also have a couple other questions:

    1. Is it still recommended you use the Microsoft SATA driver? Hopefully intel has added TRIM to their drivers by now. I will NOT be doing RAID of course.

I'm just wanting a drive that is pretty fast, reliable, and i don't have to worry about it slowing down over time.

    thanks,
    Ncage

You would be better off using the latest Intel RST driver, which can now pass the TRIM command.

A lot of laptops seem to have gimped SATA capabilities. The reduced performance may well not affect your real life experience, but it is worth knowing in case it does and you are disappointed. If you have a G2 (and its not too much trouble) put it in the laptop and run a benchmark to see if its performance is OK or do a bit of research on your laptop model and see if anyone can confirm SATA performance with an SSD.

Gimped laptop performance on SATA II seems to hit 4k random read/ write speeds and access times. For single SSD's I would recommend benching with AS SSD Benchmark.

Nice marks!!!! I think either drive would make you happy although I might look at the OWC which doesn't seem to have the failure rate of other drives especially the OCZ. I will concede that we may see so many with the OCZ as they are one of the top two SSD manufacturers right now for total number of ssds out there.

^ I can’t see any reason why OWC Sandforce based drives would be any more reliable than the OCZ equivalent as they both appear to use the same nand and controller, but maybe you know something different?

This review seems to show that OWC use the same Intel NAND that OCZ predominantly use for the Revo drive, Vertex 2 and Agility 2 . The nand part number is 29F64G08CAMDB.

On The Intel M & V drives the nand part number is 29F64G08CAMDB1

Intel only sell usb grade nand, which then needs to be further refined by the purchaser if it is going to be used for SSD. Most, if not all companies that don’t manufacture nand do not have this capability. For Sandforce based SSD’s usb grade nand works due to the large OP provision for DuraWrite and RAISE redundancy, which can correct errors and reduce writes. Cutting back on OP from 20% to 7% must therefore have an implication somewhere down the line and the amount of problems being reported can't be put down to firmware forever.

Which SSD is better and why, had it in RAID OCZ Agility 2 Extended 120GB or OCZ Vertex 2 Extended 120GB?

    Vertex 2, greater IOPS.
