    Geforce GTS 450 appears on shelves

    It appears that an Asus version of the GTS450 has popped up on bulgarian pricelists earlier than expected.

    Specs are:
    Graphic core: nVidia GTS 450
    Manufacturing process: 40nm
    Interfaces: PCI-E 2.0 x16
    Outputs: DVI-I, HDMI
    Volume and type of memory: 1GB DDR5 (128-bit)
    Core frequency: 783Mhz
    Frequency of shaders: 1566MHz
    Memory frequency: 1800 MHz (effective 3600 Mhz)
    Number of stream processors: 192
    Supports DirectX version: 11.0
    Supported OpenGL version: 4.1
    Maximum energy consumption: <125 W
    Other: CUDA parallel processing, GeForce PhysX

    IMO it's weaker than expected. I hoped for at least 256 SPs and 192bit memory bus, but nvidia decided differently, obviously. It's a very cool card, however. Tests by the guys at HardwareBG show that the card barely gets above 64°C in furmark and it does so fairly quietly.

    Oh, BTW, the price was around 145 Euro before taxes before they hid it.

    Still seems too high, there are GTX 460s (even if only the 768MB version) for less than 150 euro + sales tax, way too small price gap between the two products, hope that shop is just gouging like silly due to being first to list it and reality will be more sensible.

    Well, some gauging is to be expected. Besides, it's an Asus card and over here they sell at a price premium for some reason. The price should settle a bit lower, but only time will tell. A review is being cooked currently ,or at least that's what they say in the first link (sorry I didn't post a translation, but the way google translates it to English makes it completely unreadable), so we should at least see if the performance is OK. The clocks are somewhat high (except the memory) so it might not be that bad. Still, it's basically half a GTX460 at slightly higher clocks, so it isn't that hard to predict.

    Likely weaker, as GTX260 is 192/216 sp with a 448 bus width, and nearly matches GTX460.

    i think a 260 will slap a saddle on the GTS450 and ride it around the block
    remember that a gtx275 beats a gtx470 in some benchmarks

    it really is exactly half a gf104...
    that is in GTS250 territory... but GTS250 cards have been selling for 99$ for almost a year now, so i dont really get what this card is supposed to do... if GF106 consumes less power then itll be great for laptops... and htpcs... but desktops? im sure itll be faster than a gts250, but not a lot... and then there is atis 5700 series which is between 100 and 150$ and will most likely beat the GTS450 across the board...

    3dmark vantage X (xbitlabs)
    GTX480 = 10.000
    HD5870 = 8.900
    GTX470 = 7.850
    HD5850 = 7.500
    GTX460 = 6.500
    GTX285 = 6.350
    GTX465 = 6.150
    HD5830 = 6.000
    GTX275 = 5.700
    GTX260 = 4.650
    HD5770 = 4.300
    GTS450 = 3.250(?)
    GTS250 = 3.150

    Ummm, GTX 460 is 20-30% faster than GTX 260.

    What benchmarks? I just skimmed through CB.de review and the closest it gets is 20%, otherwise it's mostly 45-50% faster and sometimes even 80-100% in some extreme cases.

    GTS 450 will have 4 Polymorf units, 32 Texture units, ROPS? ....still it will beat 5770 in DX11 by a slight margin.

    nVidias cheapest DX11 card. Given the heat output, that cooler should make for a cool running card.

    Probably only 1 PCI-E power plug needed...

    shame about the likely performance and cost though

    All things considered, it might make for a nice HTPC card, but i would have really liked to see this as a GTS 440 rather than a 450. Now we wait for benches to see if it can at least catch the 5770. Also, stock clocks seem high-ish, wonder if there will be any headroom left, considering it runs quite cool at stock.

    Seems like G92 finally found a Successor.
    I wonder how long it will stick around.

    New flashy name, higher price and around the same performance as the old 8800GTS+. The way it's meant to be played, nVidia earns loads of money.

    In DX9 and DX10, Nvidia's last gen is pretty close to Fermi. This card looks like a dud to anyone looking to upgrade from last gen's midrange, e.g. 4850.

    Yawn, pass.

    The HD 4850 was a $199 card. Why would someone be looking to "upgrade" to a lower price point in the first place? Direct replacements for the HD 4850 are the HD 5830, HD 5850 and GTX 460. IMO, any lower end 400-series card will likely act as a replacement for the HD 4830, HD 4770 and GTS 250.

    Cause any reason to kick Nvidia in the nuts is a good reason, no matter how stupid the reason may be.

    I got mine for around $100. So from my perspective, and many people who did get it on the cheap, I'm looking at $150 cards and up.

    Even the GTX460 is not a compelling upgrade path for a 4850. I seriously debated it for a while, but I decided to wait for the next gen from either company.

    Also, from my limited memory the GTS250 and the 4850 were quite similar in performance.

    Well, it depends. If you bought the card for $99, my guess is that purchase was made late in the product's lifespan. You can't expect a brand new GPU to carry the same price point as an EOL one.

    If I had a 4850 the logic path would be wait a couple of months for ATI's next gen and/or Nvidia's refresh and buy another 4850, imho. Those cards are almost free today.

    Fair nough, but I still don't see who would want to upgrade to this. Perhaps people still running non-unified cards, but the 5770 has been out for a while now.

    The bajillions of people who don't upgrade every year? "Enthusiast" short-sightedness at work again
