You can also say if AMD brings in a Bulldozer, Intel will have a sandy bridge that the bulldozer cant cross... get it

2 more cores, higher frequency? Could be, but there is a TDP limit to take into account, since the 980X is already at 130W TDP.
Anyway, i do not think we will see 8cores/16 threads at 3.46ghz stock, it would be quite a stretch to pull that off.
perhaps at 22nm it will be within reach, it's hard to tell right now but it appears Intel really did their homework when it came to making SB very efficient (in terms of ipc and power consumption).

ivy bridge will bring 12-cores, probably at higher clocks than the 8-core SB
