    GTX460 and Starcraft2 Performance

Hey peeps, I was wondering what kind of FPS you get in starcraft if you set 1920x1200 all maxed out in ULTRA with forced 2x AA and reduce lag option on. I get 30-40 fps and was wondering if it's normal.

My card is a palit sonic platinum 1gb @ 900/4200

    Intel i7-4790K Devil's Canyon @ 4.5ghz

it gets 61 fps average here, but

    Test System Specs
    - Intel Core i7 920 (Overclocked @ 3.70GHz)
    - x3 2GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-12800 (CAS 9-9-9-24)
    - Asus P6T Deluxe (Intel X58)

Seems to be that the limiting factor is actually CPU. I have a Q6600 and my performance is poor, but based on this review's CPU chart, clock speed seems to be the main thing, as long as you have dual core or more (only 2 cores are used, quads are useless )

I can play the game on ultra with a 8800GTS, how do you test your fps with it?

Performance very much depends on the processor and clocks. i7 is the best and all under the i5 750 is bottlenck for high end GPUs, including 460. i7 clock per clock can be 50% faster than older c2q and this explains the poor performance. AA also has a big blow to the performance
OC your CPU as high as you can.

You do not have. I experienced the difference between the Q6600 and i7. 50 vs 90fps is a big difference. You can not compare Vantage that uses all cores and physx with Starcraft that use only 2 cores. Try and you will see, particularly at ultra details.

I don't buy this for one second. I have a i7 875k, and I was running 8800gt's in sli and did not feel comfortable running @ ultra especially in large battles.

This game is hugely cpu dependant tho. Any benchmarking charts will show a huge fps jump from i7 to C2Q to Phenom II.

@LowRider: I don't see the point in forcing AA. I run the game at max @ 90+fps. I can definitely tell a difference between 40-50 and 80-90+fps.

Well tell me how to find my fps in the game and I'll take some screen shots for you. Kinda my original question on how to do this. Okay well figured out how to see the fps no thanks to you here are some pics. These are my current settings I play with online. "High" Then I'll show Ultra.

    "High" Settings

    Low Movement 86fps

    Attacking 59fps

Now everything that is set to High I'll switch to Ultra.

    Low Movement 73FPS

    Average Action ultra 55FPS

Attacking FPS Ultra Very playable 42fps

    I'm running a e4300@ 3.01Ghz 4GB of ram a 8800GTS @ 702Mhz and drivers not even tuned for SC2 I doubt. 195.62's?

Everything is smooth and playable but I don't play online with Ultra settings anymore, I was able to just fine though but High is better for 3vs3's. Next time I'll check the FPS of big battles On high with 6 players playing but since I have not noticed any hiccups unless I'm taking a screenshot I can't rule this card out. It's damn good at what it does. I'm kinda tempted to pick up some new drivers and test them out especially since mine are a year old and lol they are all the way up to 258.96's now.

How is this game CPU dependant exactly?

Nah just whatever, like the ones I posted above. I want to see how much better it is cause right now it looks pretty good on my rig so I'm curious if cards are worth upgrading to yet. Thanks in advance

10-4 buddy, do you have the g92 8800GTS? i had one of them back in the day, SOLID gpu but i think now is the time for you to jump on a GTX470. the price is right and you'll notice a huge difference in IQ, i did moving from a 9800GX2 to a GTX260 to a 4870 to a GTX470.

screenies in a few hours, when i get home from work.

Thanks a lot, Hrmmm well the details on the guys is a little better but on the landscape not much of a change. When a game lags when lots is going on is it because of bnet, processor, or card? I ask because to me I play Modern Warfare which to me seems like it would be far more intensive especially with air strikes and such and I don't get any laggy bits even with 20+ people in a server but at times big battles online in 2v2s it can get choppy. Whats that from?

Whats that from?
it depends on what is going on, if there are a lot of explosions/cloaking then the card is probably having a hard time; there are also EPIC battles that will choke my cpu. it just depends on what you do... though i've never had an issue with bnet.

i didn't see any explosions in your screens, that is the biggest improvement i've seen going from card to card in sc2. it seems like there is a lot more detail (that i can see) in explosions now, and the textures in general feel sharper. not too sure how to explain, seems like the zerg are slimier, toss shinier, and terrans have better paint jobs....

I'll take some screenshots of explosions and such next time I play. What processor are you running in that rig? But I agree the Zerg do look better anyways.

no, it's dx9. the game can be very cpu dependant.

glow, i'm running a qx9650 at stock settings for the moment. the GTX470 was overclocked to 800mhz core @ 1.075v, 1700mhz ram. with custom fan profiles, it never gets above 75 degrees.
