830s seem to work nice with this host.

The time to init firmware seems to have doubled though (30 seconds).
Wish that was faster but I don't boot that much to worry about it.

Yes if you update your M4 firmware. The incompatibility was w/ the M4 not the Areca.

anyone have any good figures for 8 ssd's on the 1880 in raid-6 mode? Just picked up some of the intel 520's (240gb version / 25% OP) but am wondering if I'm running into card's checksum limit and should jump up to the 1882. Or (which is very likely) the ancient MB I've got here that i'm looking to replace as the PCIe is done through the ICH/MCH chipsets opposed to directly to the cpu.

-crystal disk snippet for random i/o--
    Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 31.374 MB/s [ 7659.6 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 57.784 MB/s [ 14107.5 IOPS]
    Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 224.241 MB/s [ 54746.4 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 62.190 MB/s [ 15183.2 IOPS]

Had snooped their FTP yesterday hoping for a beta that included the volume encryption they announced for 1882's last month (http://www.areca.com.tw/news/2013/0108_2013.htm) but no dice. Anyone been able to make heads or tails of their volume encryption announcement/feature? I sent Kevin an email but got an autoreply that they're out for chinese new year until the 18th.
