    Post [Skinnee Labs] The Pump thread...

    Much like the GTX480 thread, only the topic this time is pumps... DDC3.2's, 3.25's, CPx, CPX-Pro, D5 and all the pump tops we can get our grubby paws on.

    Now I know what you're thinking... great, another thread with 4 months of delays before I get to see any usable data. Haha, wrong. We're starting out this one with a bunch of data for you to sink your teeth into. Additionally, we'll continue running tests, some bulk updates and some that just trickle in. In reality, I can see tops and data being added over the next year or more. And rather than sprinkle little nuggets of info around the section, lets just drop it in one spot.

    Before we roll right into it, there are a bunch of folks who need mentioning and a thank you for their support and assistance. Performance PC's, EK, Koolance, Swiftech, Aqua Computer, Danger Den, XSPC, Frozen CPU, Vapor, Naekuh, and Squishee. I'm sure there will be more as testing progresses, but without all of the help the testing would never have made it this far.

    is there any chance of seing what a duel jingway 1200 setup would do, as cost wise this would come in at about the same as a single ddc + top and it would be good to know how it compared and how close it could get to the duel ddc's.

    I wonder what is the safe flow rate so that comp fittings and other won't leak under high pressure? isn't 3.5 gpm too much?

    I can tell you that Tygon is NOT, I repeat NOT capable of handling household 50-80 psi water pressure..

    I tried that once...luckily outside.. Think water balloon followed by my face receiving a good lesson learned.

    I've also heard at least one story of someone damaging a radiator using household water pressure to flush it, so household pressure is WAY too much.

    I believe Tygon 3603 is rated at 74F:

    7/16"x5/8" = 20psi Max
    1/2"x3/4" = 25psi Max
    1/2"x5/8" = 10psi Max..
    3/8"x1/2" = 20psi Max


    You obviously at least want thick walled tubing.

    In operation, double DDCs likely won't subject the system to more than about 11psi, triples maybe 17psi, RD-30 maybe 14psi.

    In practice I think it's been common enough to see dual DDCs that they are relatively tested to a comfort level, but triples are pretty new and not tested a whole bunch.

    We don't know about the pressure rating on most parts so it's anybody's guess on that? Perhaps the manufacturers can start posting pressure specs??

    Regardless, I suspect the weak point is the fitting/barb pull out on the tubing, especially anything that's been removed/put back together, and particularly with some compression fittings that have small barbs. A 1/2" tube at 17psi is receiving about a 3.5 lb normal force trying to pull the tubing off the barb. I'd be a little uncomfortable with that sort of pressure unless I had a standard barb and worm drive clamp.

    I ran triple 3.2's for almost a year, with no troubles. Although I was using Primo LRT tubing, which feels stronger than Tygon, and well-tightened worm gears on BP barbs. This was all feeding directly into a Koolance KL350, so that would have been a pretty sharp pressure drop across the block.

    Mind, previous to that, I managed to blow some Tygon out of a BP comp (which have almost non-existent barbs), and to this day, I'm still certain that I had the tubing inserted and tightened down properly.

    Awesome work as always Skinnee!! I am going to dplug an EK top x-top v2 to and Ek dual top V2 and see how it goes!! As my xspc triple top failed again.....Too much pressure from the DDc 3.25 pumps I think. :P

    Hmm, it would be nice to see iwaki among results aswell. Not that i'm interested in ever buying/using it, but to be able to compare it to other pumps (eg. Dual DDCs) and to have some test to point to when someone asks about RDs. +DDC 3.1(5), as also frequently used pump. +noise testing. Also while EK Supreme HF is very fine (especially flow resistance wise) cpu block, imho it would be nice to see some more resistive block (and same for DD's fullcovers in SLI test. They are very unresistive relative to common modern blocks by other vendors). = imho should result in more "common loop setups"/more useful/aplicable to average LC builds data.

    I think it would be interesting to see a test done with a stock D5 and DDC in each of your test loops to see the performance increase when the tops are added.
