1055T - CIV Formula - g.skill ECO - no progress until i get better cooling

Thanks for the great help from this community in passing all my back to the game problems and HT Walls

    Newest Progress @ Post # 14

    Specs:

    1055T 125W
    Crosshair IV Formula
    4x2GB G.Skill ECO 1600 7-8-7-24-2T
    HD 5850
    Corsair HX620
    Heatkiller HK3.0; EK FC5850; Dual 120mm RAD
    2x 128gb Ultradrive GX; 3x WD20EARS Raid 5

Last CPU i really overclocked was my good old E2140@3.6 ghz and on AMD it was the Opteron 170 so i have no clue about all the Settings in this BIOS

Also i still found no way to get the RAM up and running at its rated speed (it's on the certified vendors list of the motherboard; fully supported with 4 Dimms)

this is what i've got so far:

increasing any value by a single notch results in a system hangup but it is 3 hours linx stable at these settings.
i don't really know anything about these settings and how they affect overclockability aside from vCore and vDimm

what is the effect of CPU/NB Voltage; does this affect the maximum possible memory clock?; does it affect the maximum HT Speed?
Are HT and NB Voltage only related to HT Overclocking or do they affect memory clocks?
What is CPu VDDA Voltage, VDDR and NB 1.8V Voltage?

i tried to keep HT Link and NB clock below 2000mhz to find the maximum core speed first but i don't know what to do now as i only overclocked my 955BE with the multis and i don't know which settings affect max HT Clockspeed

PS: CPU stays below 45°C in linx and NB; PWM and RAM heatsinks are OK to touch (=not very hot)

The NB affects the memory clock in that it affects the memory controller. You need to bump up both the NB and CPU if you want to clock higher.

Few settings that you need to look at when o/cing the HTREF(FSB) speed.

Make sure you multi is lowered as much as possible, also make sure you ram speeds are at lower speeds along with your htlink and cpu-nb speeds.

This will allow you to find out the max HTREF speed.

You may need to add NB voltage and POSSIBLY SB voltage (these are all motherboard voltages). Not sure if the CFIV has HTLink voltages but when you start o/c that you may want to increase that.

When you eventually start getting ur cpu overclocked, i'd say get your max voltage you want to apply (alot of people seem to be running around 1.45-1.5v with a decent cooler) and start increasing the multi slowly until you get crashes then bump it back a multi.

Do the same with CPU-NB speeds (keeping around 1.3-1.35v on the CPU-NB Voltage*btw this controls the voltage applied to the other part of the cpu the integrated memory controller*).

Once that's done, generally you can increase the htlink speeds to the same as the CPU-NB speeds. i belevie most 8series chipset motherboards can handle 2400+ HTLINK speeds.

After ALL that is done, you can start playing with the ram. making sure you supply the ram with the rated voltage.

Don't normally play with the VDDA and the CPU PLL voltages so... not sure about them...

    Hope this helps mate!

ok i got ROG connect up and running on my noteboojk which was a great help!

i can't boot at 290mhz HT link while setting it in ROG connect when the rig is up and running is easily possible, i can crank up the voltages by 0.1v and it doesn'tchange anything...

these are my settings for 285mhz:
    BIOS:

    ROG Voltage monitor

which stress program is the best to test for HT link stability?
is it recommended to install the latest ASUS bios or are there known bugs in it?

try to increase your TRC for memory, pretty sure stock on that eco kit is 40 (not saying use 40 but perhaps its failing due to higher clicks vs tight timings due to HT increase).

shouldn't need more then 1.25 for the motherboard NB (Not CPU-NB)

the DRAM is good upto 1540mhz at these timings with 1.35volt (with higher dram multi); additionally i don't find the TRC setting

what effect does HT voltage have on the max bclk?
i'm 100% sure that the ram itself isn't failing @ the higher BCLK; but it may be the MC failing to cope with the 4 Dimms at this bclk (but then again i can run the memclock 300 mhz higher than what is set right now...)

    Your NB is too low
bump it up to 2.4GHz and you should have some fun

I got 1055T (Air Cooling with Ultra 120 Extreme, Dual Delta 12cm Fan) and it max out at 4.5GHz

I fought this same problem for a couple months.
The G.Skill Ecos use the same chips as my low voltage Mushkins (BBSE) rated @ 1.35v.

If you feel safe running your mem voltages higher this thread may help.

wooooow i'll give it a try ASAP

EDIT: seems like i have a stable boot @ 290mhz now
EDIT2: running linx@ 300mhz right now, thanks for the great tip (i even bumped the NB voltage back to 1.3v and 890fx volt down to 1.2v )

OK i'm having problems to gt the higher HT link stable; i lowered my mem to 1200 mhz and did a slight bump to the voltages but no luck so far...

which voltage settings have an influence on HT link stability?

after installing the newest bios it seems to be stable; i'm trying to raise linx settings (memory size) every time it does 20 passes to find out if the memory is my issue or everything was resolved witht he new bios

You may need some more vcore to get through the htt wall. After my 8 hour session of prime ends I'll see what I can do to get higher because I have the same memory as you. I haven't set timings on the memory, they default to 9-9-9-24 and I set the voltage to 1.5 and just run them. Right now my htt is set to 270 because I'm testing for max nb with high cpu speed.
Not much to say right now.

incresaing the vdimm to 1.65v opened my HTT Link from 280mhz all the way up to 300mhz Linx stable (i run the vcore at 1.45v right now); will post a screenie once the system gets responsive again after the current Linx run (i'm on my lappie right now)

Additionally you may want to flash the newest Bios as this enabled me to dramatically increase the fully stable HT link speed from 275 to 300mhz (still testing; it might be even higher!)

    EDIT: Current LINX Run

    thanks!

linx is at 1 hour and 10 passes but i have to sleep now; will try to push it to at least 320mhz tomorrow and find my max RAM and Core speed but i think that my small rad is starting to become a limit once i increase my clockspeeds (will add 1 more fan to it and try to get a second rad up and running this week)

I tested up to 300 htt with my nb at 3ghz. I didn't notice when I posted the first time that you had two sets of sticks and not just one so I'm not really much help.
Not much to say right now.

yeah i'll try to push the NB a bit later as the 4 dimms put a much higher load on the NB

i'm running linx@ 310 mhz right now and it already did 3 passes so i hope that it's stable

seems like 310+ is the new wall i have to beat...
will post some bios screens and benchies if i can't find a way around it,..

seems like my core part is a dud; fails everything above 4 ghz; it might be cooling related but i doubt it....

    New Update:

I have some issues with Linx testing: While it does several passes without any issues at one point linpack_xeon64.exe just crashes and the GUI shows no error...

i'm already down to 3800mhz and a 280mhz bus speed (running linpack @ 310mhz proved to be no problem at all)

do you think that i'm held back by my cooling (AOD shows 48 and ROG Connect 58°C when it crashed) or something else?

ok i hit 4ghz 1hr linx stable by enabling load line calibration but my cooling is VERY insufficient; it keeps hitting 60°C and more (at one pass 68 ); will post some screenies once i get a new rad (or Case) next week

the rig should be good for around 4.4ghz once i get the cooling sorted out

generics, the temp probes on all X6's are reporting false temperatures.

Has been a AMD table stating this.

Going off AOD temps +10-15C onto it and this will give you the real temps.

The max temps that these cpu's like to go is also approx 62C.

While, they can probably handle this temperature without becoming faulty, they do get EXTREMELY unstable at those temps.

My 1090t sits at around 27-29C underload so is about 37-44C at 4.0ghz so is quite capable of more.

BTW that's with a 360rad with scythe 1900 110cfm fans on it! these cpu's do push out some heat.... :P

i know; mime stays stable until 69°C; 1degree more = instant lockup; up to 69 it does 40 linx passes all memory without any problems so i need to get a second rad into my loop (i'm running a single rad with 1400rpm fans...)

What size rad do you have? O_o

Mine's a 360 and works perfectly fine, maybe look at getting something like that and using the other rad after the cpu for mobo or video cooling?

a single 240 EK coolstream with 1300 rpm fans behind an air filter ; about 25-30% of the ouputarea is blocked by my pump (it's enclosed in bubble wrap...)

Uhhhhhh..... yer that'll be ur problem!

I suggest getting a different case that's bigger and will allow you to place your components in better spots.

I have a haf-932 and have BULK space for stuff
