is the asus 1920x1200 25.5" with tuner good
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-047-_-Product

ive been looking for a downgrade to my crt before it dies (i cannot afford and upgrade), i saw that asus's last 16:10 large monitor was on sale, is it any good.

it looks like a TN junker and i guess i can live with it, but how is the IQ and artifacting.

You're right that it would be a downgrade, and if you are limited to that much money and don't mind the tradeoff you might be satisfied with it, esp if you use it mostly for gaming. If it's for true multi purpose use, I'm not sure you'll like it though. Monitors with tuners aren't usually as convenient as TVs as monitors for overall use, and at that price they're also not as good in IQ.

You may want to consider holding off and spending a bit more on something like a 32" Panny or Sharp HDTV, but that of course means being OK with 16:9 and 1920x1080 vs 1920x1200. Overall you'd get better color accuracy, contrast and viewing angles than any cheap TN monitor can offer though, and the TV tuner would likely be far better and actually have a remote, whereas the one you're looking at doesn't.

Another option is taking that range of money and spending it on a monitor that doesn't come with a tuner, to get a bit better display. You can get by on net TV recaps until you get a decent tuner for it.

i have a panasonic 32" s1 2009 (the best 32") already, i need a monitor and i waited until now but there are now only a few 16:10 and they are expensive. so do u think that i would be better off with something else and if so do u have any ideas as that asus is under $240 on buy affter rebate.\

on the tuner, asus nolonger has the nontuner and i know that the samsung HD pannels had the same IQ and artifacting as the non tuner, so i would assume that asus would also if they are only sellign the one monitor still.

what im worried about is having my monitor die before i can decide on what to get and then i might get stuck with no ips, 16:9 and no 120hz, i can live without the ips or 120hz if i get 16:10 i think atleast as a stepping stone for a year or 2.

Well you'd need to mention a few criteria first. What's the smallest size you're willing to go, are you insisting on a tuner, does it have to be under $250, do you insist on new vs refurbed, etc.

im looking for 1920x1200 and in the $250-300 range, a little over and tax is fine but through conventional channels there is a bad HP or the samsung bwt and i know that that was unimpressive. i dont care for the tuner but i also dont care if its there, but i do want HDCP and hdmi, and i dont care if it dose or dose not have speakers.

i was looking for the t260hd before lastt year but they are dead now

Wow, after a little checking I'm finding you are really right about not many choices in 1920x1200 anymore. That's literally the only one Newegg has in that price range in a decent brand right now.

You may want to consider checking Amazon because they not only have a fair selection and prices, they allow returns for any reason and will even pay for return shipping. Check this filtered search, has everything but screen size according to your criteria & is top reviewed models only. Unfortunately they don't have a res option in their filter though, so I don't know which are 1920x1200:

ive checked, amazon, buy, frys, newegg, and tiger/compUSA/CC and other less popular sites, the asus one is litteraly the only one that is not the cheap samsung or the HP pos thats is not $500 and even the dell IPS $600 monitors are hard to get now.

What about the Samsung 2433BW at Amazon?

Also eBay has some new Buy it Now Acer and Lenovo models in that price and res in 24".

You're not going to be able to afford to be too picky though since you waited so long and want a 1920x1200. Unless you manage to find the odd rare deal somewhere.

    Nope, look again:

    "Maximum Resolution: 1920 x 1200"

...and it's not THE Acer, there's two different models there.

    (EDITED)
LOL, I just noticed there's two different specs listed for them, 1200 and 1080, weird.

I don't think you have many options new Zan. You may have to go used or at least refurbed if you want something else.

I'm in the same boat.... looking for 1920x1200, decent size... and IPS would be nice... but not $900-nice. $300-nice. So TN it is I guess. Saw that same asus.... I think that's one of the very-few options, unfortunately. Seems like such a simple request.

    Want this:

    and will get this:

i went to frys today, it looked rather unimpressive, but they had a low rez input so all that i could see was the viewing angle and it looked unimpressive even compared to other tn panels

That asus is the same one I have except mine does not have the tuner. I have been very happy with it to be honest. Yes the viewing angle is not the greatest but honestly who doesn't sit directly in front of the monitor anyway? Mine is dead square in front of me. Gaming on it is very good but I do see a slight ghosting once in a great while. For the price I really don't think you can go wrong.

I wouldn't go by what ANY display looks like at Fry's lately Zan. I too went to Fry's today to look at the 32U22 and 37D2 Pannys. Their feed was so crappy it was literally a waste of time, and I made sure I let the sales gal know when she stopped by to ask if I needed anything. I mentioned that Sears actually had a better feed for their TVs. Good showroom lighting means nothing without a decent loop to feed the displays. The only thing I was really able to do to make use of my time there was compare their PC cases, and they didn't even have the one I wanted to look at most.

You must be pretty close to a Fry's to be satisfied with just looking at the menu and size. Me, I have to drive a fair ways in heavy traffic, so when they don't even have a decent loop feed to compare them with it's a wasted trip.

Not sure which one you looked at, at Fry's, but I did end up getting the Asus.

I do like it... and Yeah, I can see the difference between it and the IPS next to it... but, it doesn't kill it for me at all. If you move around the room a lot and aren't usually parked in front of the monitor, it may be an issue for you. If you're the type to sit in front of it, it's great. Especially for the price. I'm pretty picky... so give it a day or two, but so far, I'm happy. Haven't had a chance to do much with it but put a movie on it, and surf the net. It does seem brighter and better color, but that may have something to do with the other monitors being 5yrs old.

    Hope this helps a little.

One way to review such a panel is put it on a desk of say 30" depth with pull out, which is a reasonable distance to sit, then try looking at various images on screen by looking left, right, middle. Some TNs of that size at that distance will actually show color shifting and/or fading just at those distances even sitting in one place and panning left and right with your eyes. Then again, some notice those things more than others do.

mate i own 3 of these running a eyefinity setup, couldnt be happier!

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

i just got it and its ok, i need to get a spider as i cannot seam to calibrate it (but i will mess with it again latter before buying one). so far the colors seam off (as said), it dose not seam to ghost but i have not done any real gaming, the response time seams good, it dose not have independent brightness and back light (so proper brightness is hard to find), and im starting to get a headache affter an hour or so with it.

other things that are notable is that it dose 59 and 60hz (im guessing to be compatible with TV stuff as it has hdmi and component, its also alot bigger than i though it would be, its the same height as my 22" crt but damn is it wide
