can some1 explain what the civic typeR is banned in the UK starting next year

can some1 explain what the civic typeR is banned in the UK starting next year?

i saw it on digg that it was from emissions but its a 2L 7500rpm with low nitrogen and the car gets good MPG, i had then looked and there is a ban on high CO2 PPM cars leading up to 2012 but are they really going to ban a civic for being efficient and not wasting fuel and having a proper air mix so there is little O2 or fuel sent out the tail.

    RS Cosworth same story

If Honda wanted to it can make the R Type pass any emissions test so we just have to wait and see. But in todays eccomomic down turn Honda may not want to sell the Type R in the UK to save money. But since the Type R is built in Swindon I dont see how this would save money in the UK. Honda can always ask Mugen(M-TEC) to solve any of its engine tunning problems, but would the costs = sales revenue.

The RS Cosworth was killed off by Ford as it was 2db to loud for EU noise pollution. This problem could have been fixed by a new exhaust system, but Ford did not want to do it.

Pro Drive use to sell parts kits to be fitted after cars had been registered, so they where legal when they left the factory but not so after after the number plates where fitted.

it just seams wrong though, u can buy a civic SI with the same engine with a little different tuning in california and we have the strongest emissions regulations in world but no co2 limit (but we do have mpg so its like the same), so it seams strange that the place that jags, astons and land rovers are from would ban a civic.

Please don't compare anything typeR to anything Si. That's like comparing a 2011 Mustang GT to a 1996 taurus.

the engines are rated about the same with the same boar/stroke and compression ratio. i was not implying that anythign else but maybe the trans was simmilar but for emissions they should be about the same

i know that the body, interior, suspension are all different but weight and power train seam similar.

There is a new model out next year, so they saved costs by using an 'outdated' engine for as long as possible.

The 'high performance' version of the 2l was only used in a few models so there wasn't a pressing need to develop a new version when the old one would do.

It's not just Honda though - just look at Audi/VW/Seat - they have lightweight 2l turbo engines, but their high performance (260bhp+) variants use a far older engine - not because the newer engine couldn't produce the same power, but that the costs in validating the engine for that extra niche isn't worth it when the older heavier engine will do.

The next type R will probably use a hybrid engine with an ~150bhp 1.5l engine and a ~50bhp electric motor - could be both fun to rev, but also have the low down torque the current engine somewhat lacks - even if I doubt it would actually be any more efficient than just a standard petrol engine.

But it looks 'green' to the uninformed, would meet the stricter emissions requirements, and provide equivilent performance - so a win all round really.

why would they come out with that for the type R isnt that what the new crx has with a 1.5L and an electric booster.

i just dont get the ban, its low on nitrogen exhaust, low on hydro carbons and it gets good mpg so why ban it on emissions

so what emission dose it not meet, i dont see how a less than 2L can break standards when they have high rpm v8-v12 that arnt getting killed

those emissions laws, the hot air politicians spew from their faces to keep their fat cat bellies from exploding like in Monty Python's "Meaning of Life".

Gotta please the greenies to get the votes, not that anything is actually getting done.
