I need better cooling on my VRMs to hit 900 too. I were strongly disadvising people not to get the standard Palit version, and some lucky guy went and got one still, and it hit 900 Mhz with no artifacts right away

The amount of luck needed on these GTX 460s for good OCs is immense.
Ditto. With 1.1v my card does 880 core absolutely fine, but it won't really scale above that due to VRM heat which is insane. I happen to catch the back of the card with my finger while it was loaded when I was plugging a fan in, boy did it burn. Even with a HS I would guess those VRMs are hitting 80c. I don't want to think about how hot the VRMs on those Palits are getting

Finally got some cool weather for benching.
This run was clean. 3Dmark06 - 985 core - around 68-70f in room ambient.
This is a fun little card. Keeps surprising me. Go water folks!!!

You can go higher . Just take the voltage a bit higher.

I keep all of my cards @ 1.212V 24/7 and that is w/ them under 100% usage 24/7.

He was getting 900 Mhz at 1.1v, and 925 Mhz stable at 1.087v on a Palit

He had VRM coolers on it actually, it shipped with them somehow, but it had the plain no heatpipe block of metal on the GPU (non platinum), and he also said it was whining really loud (no high quality caps, or is that a fan problem?).

The reference design, Asus, MSI and Gigabyte all use the higher quality caps / chokes and stuff and dont have any whine and much lower temps (MSI temps are amazing somehow), but the Palits whine, and Gainward use the same PCBs.

As MSI said, theres no guarantee that other companies will use the higher quality stuff, even if its standard on the reference design. The GPU is down to luck, but you can choose a better quality PCB (gigabyte, asus, msi, even reference), plus better quality cooling.

Even with the MSIs - the reviews said that they didnt come with a mini HDMI > HDMI adaptor, and someone that bought them from OCUK didnt have the adaptor. Whereas both of mine came with a mini HDMI > HDMI adaptor in the box!

They are crazy, theres random variations between contents and cooling even between cards by the same brand. The MSI ones seem to do great even without VRM cooling somehow though.

In reply to the previous post, i've got the Gigabyte GTX 460 1GBOC, and it does whine when OC'd when folding@home and its not the fan, my previous GTX 260 whined just a little bit louder than this one and i really hate that noise. So don't give the wrong info that these don't make that really high pitch whining.

I werent giving wrong info on purpose, this is the first time I've heard of a gigabyte card whining as opposed to maybe 20+ complaints about the Palit.

The Gigabyte card was the best selling at OCUK, not one person on the forum reported whining noise with this, or the MSI model which was their second best selling (OCUK staff posted how many of each they sold in the week they were on offer, 70+ gigabytes, 50+ MSIs). Yet just about everyone that bought the palit said that it was whining.

I have benched stuff at 1015 and completed them, although with artifacts. I tried 1.212v once and my screen went blank, heard a pop, heard a beep, and said oh crap. Had to shut down and restart and thankfully it worked still. So I am a little hesitant.
What do you run your core at 24/7 ? At 985core I had a hour long session of Dirt2 last night (1080p everything max) and it ran perfect. Got 90fps max 70min in the built in benchmark.

My two Zotac 1GB cards run @ 975 MHz core. Since i run folding@home they have to run 100% stable or else the work units fail. I've been able to game @ 1000MHz no problem though.

Atleast I was able to upload evga bios hehe .. Also can you show me a score with identical settings as my cards please? .. Wanna try and do some comparisons here an see what cards can put out what with same settings considering we have about the same specs .

Getting two cards to play nice @ 975 is pretty cool. It looks like I will have some cool weather for another day here so I may have to get adventurous. 1015 stable?

Sorry but Vantage doesn't play nice w/ my machine. Immediately after the first test it locks up every time. I don't see why you would move to a Zotac card. They aren't going to be binned any better.

Usually a lockup means a no go .. When I pushed the OC on my gigabytes I had that would happen . But ya I might keep the evgas i have . Gotta do some tweaks on them . Waiting for ket to do a modded bios on these .

Current X58 Gigabyte boards have horrible PCIe layout. It was one the reasons I got rid of my X58A-UD7 and X58A-UD3R. The top 2 x1 slots are practically useless.
