what mem to get for BloodRage?

    hey guys,
looks like 3gb isnt cutting it anymore these days
sooo... ill have to swap out my cellshock blue d9jnl and get something else...
i dont really care about high clocks... sure, higher is better even if its only visible in mem benchmarks... but im more after price per gb

im only gaming, so 12gb doesnt make sense for me, i guess?
i met somebody from gskill on the metro today by coincidence, and she told me that 12gb kits cost less than double of what 6gb kits cost, so she recommended me a 12gb kit... but... i think 6gb is enough for me and i dont want to spend more money on something i dont need... even if its a great deal, its still something i dont need and will never notice...

anyways, what brand/model of memory are you guys running and would you recommend it? or whats a good 6gb kit at the moment price perf wise?

    cheers!

I kept silence for a while, bcs I don't know the prices u can get. If u want really good memory this is the proper choice, aldo they cannot be called cheap:

    6GB G.SKILL PC3-16000 (2000MHz / 9-9-9-24 @ 1,6V) Trident Triple Channel Kit
    [F3-16000CL9T-6GBTD]
In fact, all new specimen run 2000 9-9-9 with only 1.6 V, according to my friend, who is G.Skill and OCZ local dealer. It is also flexible memory, this model - runs 1600+ 7-7-7 with same low voltage. We were able to run two kits on 2100 9-9-9 with 1.65, stable. They are also not hot and do not require additional fans to cool 'em. Anyway, they do not behave as expected with more than 1.7-1.72 V, so no need to push 'em further.
And color scheme of this G.Skill model will fit on BR excellent - black and red.

The memory modules I have are good too, but both are old models already. More flexible is OCZ - it can run 1760 7-7-7 with 1.81, responds well to increased voltage, but needs cooling. Kingston kit runs OK, similar to G.Skill model above, but they are not nice with small timings over 1650 MHz, and I'm sure, are expensier, bcs of the brand(I got them second hand for 180 EURO)

Bit wierd to read this from you..

Well, not sure if you read my report on CSX "Valute" 1333 CL9. D9KPT chips. Capable of 2000 CL8, but it needs volts. They run fine on default and 1600 CL9, which is what I run them on, cause for gaming, no use for higher. But you can go as low as 1600 CL7, if you wish so. Yea and they were absolutely cheapest from 6GB kits.

BR works perfect with them, similar to most Micron chips.

Otherwise, Crucial Value 1333 CL9 used same chips..

Both ofc needs handpicking (to get desired chips). I was fortunate and eshop handpicked them for me.

G.Skill, well had only ones and it was very bad.. but I guess BR is more chip manufacturer dependant than anything else. I would try Elpida Hypers or D9 something.

6GB is fine for me, kinda never needed more.. though PhotoShop can use definetly more.

Depends what youre shooting for dude. Do you need high bclk? If not just stick with micron. ballistix 1333 c7 kits are good for 2000mhz-2100mhz @ 8-9-8 timings 1.72-1.95v. Tested 7 kits over 2 years, all very similar. SPD is good too.

If you need high bclk look at the G.Skill Eco 1600mhz C7 sticks. I bought 8gb for my i3 server, tested 6gb of it in the BR. 222bclk link stable (no pcie mod, 102mhz pcie) with sli @ 1.38v qpi 1.58vddr 8x multi ram 10x uncore and 7-9-6 timings. You can either run 1650-1850 at cas6-7 trcd8-9 trp6-7 or at 2100+ cas9-11 trcd10-13 trp9-11. Its elpida hypers made by BBSE (so higher TRCD requirement but lower voltage than normal hypers). Theres some samsung equipped sticks out there it seems as the odd kit does like low cas but goes to 2200+ @ 9-10-9. Sweet spot for voltage is 1.58-1.62v. Really helps keep uncore temps down at high bclk/ram clock.

Theyre still not as fast clock for clock as micron though... My daily drive speed is 1910mhz 8-8-8-24 @ 1.62v on the micron. It used to need 1.66v but its burnt in over the 18 months of hard use. Spent a few weeks at 2180mhz 2.1v ddr / 1.65v qpi with my old C0 920. B2B disabled, Tras=CL+TRP, TRFC=3xTras and 1T CMD need no extra voltage.

I've never used proper Hypers, but at £250+ for a 6gb kit I never will. My own Ballistix cost me £60 at a shop clearance over 2 years ago . Theyre way more now but I still use it in i7 builds and its still the same quality. If you want my exact serial to order a "matching set for your existing kit " direct from crucial pm me and ill pull a stick out and have a look. They keep old stock for exactly that purpose. Lifetime warranty ftw .
