    air crew: some new toys

finally getting rid of the noisy TT fans and replacing the SI-128 with a real gpu heatsink to pair with those gentle typhoons.

I'm still scared by the weight of that thing . I'm afraid it would bend my card beyond repair .

    Oww, it's only 550gr. I thought it weighed like 2kg . That's actually pretty manageable then .

i've seen some shops like azerty say it's 790g but that's the weight of the megahalems so there's your explanation.

the mk-13 is beautiful, it covers the entire card but there's more than enough room for vrm/ramsinks

It's really a shame it only supports ATI's and Nvidia's high end cards, it would make a great passive cooler otherwise I think .

yeah... i don't think the 9600, 4670 etc would require such a big heatsink though

What about the noise, I can't imagine 2x 1850rpm fans being very quiet

    Me: No why?
Friend: My PSU just blew up, I think the second 8800GTX might have been too much for it to handle
Me: what PSU was that again?
    Friend: Antec 480w

actually it's very tolerable at 12V, but unstressed i run them at 7V - inaudible but still move a decent amount of air (42°C load instead of 38°C) - since they're hooked up to a fan controller.

up 790/1150 furmark. i was running furmark itself in fullscreen 1680x1050 4xMSAA on the primary display, so the printscreen only showed rivatuner stuff on the other display.

will test some crysis too, since in my experience furmark can go on all day but crysis can still make the drivers crash, UT3 even moreso.

will keep pencilling (max 1.4vgpu spot) until i reach like 830-850 then i'm happy.

the first pencilmod isn't doing much for crysis stability, not even 760/1100 (whereas furmark runs as far as 810/1100). gonna try the other pencilmod.

Those 1850rpm fans are QUIET. I own 5 of them.

How come you didn't chose 1450rpm versions for low noise? Just didn't matter? Just curious.

I'd have bought the 1850rpm fan too btw!

one review i checked ran a 9800 GT (G92 65nm) passive without incident. but why would you want to run it passive anyway, these scythe fans are inaudible when tuned down a little.

I'm pretty sure the much cheaper AC S1 can run cards up to 5770 included passively without any issues. I had one on a 5770 with a 1150 rpm Gentle Typhoon blowing from side of the case and it barely passed 60.
