[official] Corsair to launch H70 CPU liquid-cooler. Promises superlative performance

According to Corsair's tests, the new design should produce temperatures that are around 13°C lower than the H50 on an overclocked Core i7 920 chip running at 3.8GHz with 1.34V of juice
The Hydro H70 will be available sometime next week, and Scan is already accepting pre-orders for the cooler priced at £77.20. This represents about a £20 premium over the older H50

What i'd love to see would be a quick release valves on the pump block, so you could disconnect the pump from the block, lead the pipes in whatever way you'd want through the case without cutting it and then reconnect it. I have an air conditioning unit that works in such way and i can take it off myself without any worry of releasing coolant gas out. I'm sure the same could be done with this thing. I mean i have pre-made holes on my uATX case, but since i can't fit the block through i'd have to cut the case.
It would increase the price slightly, but it would be much more practical and you wouldn't have to worry about the coolant inside of it.

If this is true, then I suppose it's time to replace my Venomous X with H70?

Well actually, the Corsair rep (all hail Redbeard) confirmed all of that right here at 2am UK time. The only difference between that story and his posts here was the link to scan and the conditions of the improvement in temp, the Hexus article seems a little more reserved.

thanks, those are very sad prices though

if the going price is 80$ for a H50, then it would still be 30$ more for an H70, even though we were told 20-25$

i guess we have to wait for a little better price, those are the first pre-orders with a premium

imo i will go with the H70 even if its $30 more. why go with the old model when there is already a new one for only $30 difference ? make no sense

cause its not really 30$, today i can get a H50 for 60$, or pre-order an H70 for 50-55$ more

its not worth 80-90% higher price tag to me. im not going to be that serous of an overclocker. i already put in my purchase for the H50 at the really good deal.

like everything the middle range you get great improvements per dollar, but the upper range you pay alot for that extra little percentage.

the H70 is looking to be a killer benching "heatsink", with double the surface area in thickness, if your have bad airflow, then its not going to help much, but if you have really good airflow (push pull deltas), it can be good enough to compete with a custom water loop.

since my goal is for silence, that extra thickness will go mostly to waste. but should still offer better cooling per DB than any 60$ heatsink/fan combo i can find.

i was just about to buy Swiftech H20-220 Ultima kit but i was worried about the much hassle, the H70 is what i was needing, because my H50 wasnt really satisfying me when getting around 80 to 85c (i live in egypt ) so price to a certain limit isnt a concern to me as long as it bring more performance

Wait for the design to filter back to the Asetek LCLC and avoid the brand whore tax.

On second thoughts wait for them to slap a 240mm radiator on there too.

you can find that with CoolIT ECO C240 A.L.C.

i just need a head to head comparison for H70 and ECO C240

price is almost the same $115 against $125 for the C240

i dont think a 240mm version would sell nearly as well. it might work with 50% of new cases, but only 10% of old, resulting in like 15% compatibility. while a 120mm version is good in like 90%+ id bet.

They doubled the thickness of the raddy, so in comparison to the H50 it is effectively 240 raddy.

Bingo. We might look at doing a 240mm version in the future, but in enthusiast cases, a 120mm radiator is like near 100% compatibility and a 240mm radiator is way less than 20%. Even if it is 100% compatible with all Corsair cases.

As for pricing, the H50 was priced at over $80 at some places when it launched - costs have come down significantly since then. I imagine that while the H70 is launching at $115 or $110, it'll eventually be under $100.

I'll believe it when I see it. There's only so much you can get out of a 12cm radiator. While 8C sounds great, are we talking about 70C to 62C or more like 44C to 36C, and at what ambient?

Here's an idea: why not a 36CM version?
I have an XClio chassis with a 36cm side fan

For those of you wondering, we're not claiming this will outperform a high-end custom watercooling solution.

A nicely matched water block, pump, and radiator will provide better performance than our all-in-one kits, but they'll be much more expensive. A decent 240mm rad, pump, and block will cost you $150+, not counting the tubes and fittings and fans.

This is designed to compete mostly with high-end aircooling and to provide significant headroom over H50, especially at 200-250W.

has the pump speed been increased? for the higher heat loads you might be able to drop 1-2C with an overdrive setting that isnt recommended for 24/7 use
