You can't ignore bandwidth. Like I already said with high resolution and high quality textures the card being able to shift those textures in and out of the frame buffer faster will have more of a benefit. As your screenshot shows, your memory buffer is almost full @ 842MB. A faster memory speed will help smooth out minimum FPS when new textures are being loaded in.

If you look at "Memory Controller Load" It is low, and at most it's 37% with the highest resolutions.

Memory controller load is in direct correlation with available Memory bandwidth.
Only 37% load means the bandwidth is not even close to being saturated.

And to prove to you this, run a 3d app i.e. heaven in window mode, as it's running drop your mem clock and you will see your "Memory controller load" go up.

Ket, you were rigth .... it was the gpu OC that is the limiting factor of the mem OC!

At 900MHz my mem couldn't get stable at 2100 even at 1.1vGPU.

    I tested 860/2100@1.025v and guess what ... :

    900/4000@1.100v:

The +400MHz in the memory vs loosing 30MHz in the GPU doesn't compensate !

Um no kidding! Thats the point I was trying to get across.

Get the most out of your GPU clock first, then go for memory clock! Not the other way around like ket was telling you.

The memory on the 460 1gb is not bandwidth limited by any means, not even at stock, and high resolution.

Rasing the memory will only help bring down latency, wich is good but not to the point where it starts limiting your max gpu clock

My GPU is pretty mutch in it's OC limit.

I'm testing it at 930MHz@1,200v now...

WOW! thats pretty low for that voltage. Have you tried leaving your mem at stock, and seeing where your gpu clocks at

    At 940@1,2v it crashes.

2000 is the stock speed of this mem.
    Can it be underclocked ?

It can be underclocked, however I doubt it would help, you can always try.

I think I notice a trend where the recent 460's are not clocking as well. I could be wrong but I have a feeling that Nvidia is cherry picking the best of the gf104 cores for their next release to try and combat the up and coming ATI 6xxx series.

I would suggest for you to stick with gpu @ 900mhz 1.1v and mem at 4000 for normal use

Out of curiosity, why won't my 460 GTX run at 100% GPU load and give me more FPS in games ? I've checked and it's using only about 60% GPU and 50% mem...

If it ran at full power I would be at about 50-60 FPS...but as it is I'm at 30 FPS D:

What game, or 3d app are you experiencing this in?
And what cpu do you have, and at what clock? You could be limited by your cpu.

    Also what is your 460? Make/model (i.e. 1gb, or 768mb?)

I had this low GPU usage problem with my palit sonic in BFBC2 and it was fixed by a bios update, and forceware 260.xx

    Well that kinda sucks..

It's FFXIV and I've noticed this phenomenon in BFBC2 too..

I run at 2560X1600 so yeah... I have the 1 GB version clocked at 880/4600 @ 1.087vcore... pretty awesome bin I got if I do say so myself, highest I've seen in the thread so far.

    I'll try updating from 258.96 to 260.XX

    What 460 do you have, i.e. Palit/evga/msi/etc...?

And Its not because the game doesn't utilize it. Trust be BCBF2 will use it. There is a problem.

My Palit did this until a bios update was released for my card, and I started using 260.xx

It was driving me nuts beacause it had alot of stutter too.

Also post your bios I think I know what causes this phenomenon, I may be able to fix it.

also mine does 900mhz with 1.075v super stable

    post my bios ?

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...5&d=1285912390

    That...

I increased the voltage to 1.2vcore but I couldn't even squeeze anymore performance out of it....it seems it doesn't want to respond to voltages higher than 1.087...

    Using a leadtek 1 GB...

Using the 260.XX now, performance is better but I still find it lacking...

no no, you modded the bios for me already, I could increase the voltage, but the card doesn't seem to want to go any higher >_<

the bios I linked you to was the pre-modded one.

Since you mentioned you have an idea what was causing this problem I thought it didn't matter whether I posted the modded one or not D:
