SC2 keeps on crashing! Help Please

    Hi people,

As the title suggests, my SC2 keeps on crashing.
Sometimes I play a couple of multiplayer games, other times it crashes within seconds of starting a game.
So far it has only crashed ingame where I am in control and not in cinematic sequences.
My card is not overheating, I logged the temps and GPU was below 50C while I was playing. However sometimes it crashes with artifacts, which would suggest overheating but all temps are low.
Also had BSOD with a display driver crash and once or twice the screen just goes black.

I have tried updating my drivers. Turned off 3d models, as per someones suggestion and I have also inserted the following 2 lines in the Variables.txt:
    frameratecap=60
    frameratecapGlue=30

Thanks for any help or advice

    System Specs:

    MSI 890FXA-GD70 Bios 1.6
    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
4GB Samsung 1333MHz el cheapo RAM
    MSI 8800GT OC 512Mb
    Corsair TX650W
    WD 1TB SATA3 Black 7200rpm
    Seagate 1TB SATA II 7200rpm
    Corsair H50
    CM Storm case
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Uf... so many problems around the display would point to the GPU.
Do you have similar problems with other games?

    everything else runs fine...
Playing Bad Company 2 on high settings without any problem.
I have looped Crysis benchmark like 10 times on high.
Passes 3dmark06 and vantage without issues.

From what I read on google most people are having overheating issues, I am running a Zalman cooler and it works well.

Starcraft 2 actually broke my friends 4870 from overheating it.

It could be a driver issue, mayb I should roll back to quite an old driver or wait a bit.

I would upgrade to a 5870 but my card is still going strong and im not in the mood to deal out that cash at the moment

My 4850 does the same thing

but I think it's my card

it does it in all games, just overheats and does black screen then vpu recovery then back. It's ok

keeps me to playing 30 mins of pc games a day so much better things to do with my time.

There's something going on with the loading screens. My 4850X2 was having some issues as well. So far I haven't had any issues since Uninstalling CAT, wiping the extra with Driver Sweeper, and then reinstalling Cat 10.7 and the profiles application.

Have you tried logging your gpu temps while running (or attempting to run) sc2?

Also, as aythrea suggested, you should uninstall your driver, run driver sweeper, then reinstall. You could also try reinstalling sc2, but I doubt that would really make much difference.

It seems like many people are having issues with SC2. And I don't think they are all overheating problems.
I am going to try an old driver maybe tonight or tomorrow, sometimes it may take 30min-60mins before it dies.

I have logged the temps and GPUcore doesn't go over 50C.
Hopefully an update or something will fix this.

But I will try uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, normally this hasn't fixed issues in the past for me but it's worth a shot.

Its the 8800GT thats causing the crashes. Blizzard knows about it http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/248105993
