    totally agreed..

this is a thing i always wanted to know... do you guys think the special versions like MSI HAWK and ASUS MARS have hand-picked GPUs? or just normal GPUs?

If you read the news thread on the MSI Hawk, you will see that we think that they have better quality PCBs and cooling, however the GPUs are not cherry picked. Review samples are cherry picked, the ones that are released to the public are jut normal binned ones with the same random luck for overclocking.

So I dont think its worth buying the Hawk over the Cyclone (£40 price difference), also that I Game version would make a much better buy as it is guaranteed to run at 900 Mhz, and possibly even 5000 Mhz ram, but its only being released in Asia.

My card is pure . It barely does 820mhz stable, and for that I need 1.062v. I tried diong 825mhz today, even with a voltage bump to 1.075 and it still locks up. I truly have the worst GTX 460 out of the hundreds I have read about all over the net. Extremely disappointed.

got another hawk...I'd say save your money and get a reference one. Second piece of shit I've had the insurmountable displeasure in using.

*edit* Great! The card just imploded around the VRM's with only +70mv. STAY AWAY...VERY VERY FAR AWAY from these sad things.

Lol I'm on my 3rd set of cards now :/ .. First had the gigabytes then evga oced versions and now i have the msi cyclones coming in .. Gigabytes were awesome ! Just no full cover waterblocks for them ... Evgas? I'm not impressed with at all .. Msi? Well , I'm gonna find out shortly and plus I can put on full cover water blocks on them . Will have a vantage score this week sometime with the msi in sli mode on air ..

im going for the cyclones a simple design maybe not the greatest OC of all, but at 850 core will do the job in SLI an as open cards they are you can put a fan near and thats it or even put some enzotech ramsinks over the vrm zone

talking to a friend thats an Electronic Ing he said that prolly the vrm are soldered over a copper flat surface over the PCB to disipate as if you zoom that zone you can see something under the chips, i think just the problem becomes on going over 1.1+

    cheers all

Meaning PCB layout is the same as reference? Are you sure of that?

Positive , if you look at the pcb design it's the same as other cards that the EK fullcover waterblocks can go on ..

evga , sparkle , msi , nvidia , zotach , and a few others all have the same pcb
