Hi,

how do i know its for reference 5870 ?
Does it have the reference hsf like this and AMD on printed by the pcie slot?
maybe you misunderstood me, my card is a reference Sapphire HD5870 but im asking about the BIOS is it for reference cards ?
I posted my 5870 lightning II bios. It works with reference pcb.
You never need to update a vBIOS.. if you suspect a problem being vBIOS related request a vBIOS update from the manufacturer of your card

you can always check here, http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/, and since you are looking for one with the increased voltage make sure that it says under bios version something to the effect of "ATOMBIOSBK-ATI VER012.014.000.005.035264", with the last part after VER matching exactly. See i believe all reference cards (notice i said reference card) use the same bios or at least that is how my 5870 was, when i looked up the HIS bios it had the exact "VER" or version as the newest one listed under ATI for manufacturer of card. Make sure that under description the clocks match what yours is clocked at and you select the proper mb of memory. Also using a program like GPU-Z you can back up the bios (and should) and store it somewhere safe so that if anything goes wrong your set to reflash to the original one.
To point out what i meant about the VER number matching, this bios is the "Official 5870 reference bios" http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/6...24.091112.html for 1gb reference cards at stock clocks, notice how it says "Same bios as" and has Sapphire HD 5870 out to the side, well if you click the Sapphire HD 5870, it brings you to this bios http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/6...24.091112.html and notice the VERSION string number matches exactly ending in 035264????, its the same. If your card is a reference one with 1gb (1024mb) memory with clocks at 850core and 1200mem respectably, then either one should work.
Dude, really!!! I mean we are in a PC enthusiast forum the last time i looked, and no you don't have to overclock nor do we even have to build our own computers, heck we could even just stay inside our homes for the rest of our lives and never go out. there is a inherent risk in everything we do involving computers, but if you understand what you are getting into and how to do it properly you can do about anything, so please don't spout nonsense, ATI would not have created another Bios unless they were addressing a known problem. You never need to update a vBIOS.. if you suspect a problem being vBIOS related request a vBIOS update from the manufacturer of your card

Just put my two MSI 5870s (Reference) on EK waterblocks and added them to the loop today. Now I'm lost poking around techpowerup looking for whatever bios I need to clock these things over 1000mHz. Also looking for a voltage reccomendation for 'em... I usually game at stock and bench at 900/1300 1.225V. Can someone clarify which is the best bios to use that is unlocked?
