    GTX 460 aftermarket coolers

Now due to the fact that mounting holes of GTX 460 are different that other cards in the recent past, it does not look like any current 3rd party cooling solutions will work for this.
I have zotac and galaxy cards here. The zotac and galaxy both get whiny after say 40 % fan speed.
Are there any solutions out there that are either launching soon or can be used with little modding?
Right now I have removed the stock removable fan of galaxy GC Ed and stuck a silent rubberies fan in the gap there which works well. No such easy fix for zotac.

its not so much the bolt spacing since its the same as a g92gts.a stock 76gt heatsink fits it lol even can put a vf700 on it if it can take it lol
my palit card is shorter and uses a side by side dmi hence double size bracket so the box is in the way,if not i could get even a cheap as1 rev2 to fit it np.an other thing with the shorter non ref pcb is that its core is closer to the bracket then the other cards.
not had a ref. board yet but i think same bolt space?

the ref. boards with over and under connectors will have an easier time to fit coolers that are on the market already.

No, its definitely not same as G92.
AFAIK Palit is using old G92 mounting.
Rest including the reference are using different mounting holes.
They are not in square arrangement but rectangular with diagonal distance of around 80mm.

See, here is the picture of Palit GTX 460 that I found on web.

Now here are few pics of my Galaxy GTX 460. And even reference models have same mounting points to this one.

I have a Palit with the basic aluminum heatsink so I put on a old Zalman vf900 using the outer most holes. The temps were worse than the stock heatsink so I ended up putting the stock HS back on then strapping a 92 mm fan to it leaving the shroud off. It lowered my temps a good 6 degrees C. Not a huge diff. but better.

The Palit and Gainward cards use the 53mm x 53mm bolt pattern

Here is gtx 470 with Spitfire and 1400prm Kama flow 2 . In bf2 temps are around 55-57c. On gtx460 i would keep it under 50c for sure.

Even overclocked to 800mhz with 1.05v temps are under 70

Alter reinstalling cooler , 5,6c cooler

^^ even spitfire wont fit most GTX 460s. It sucks that Nvidia decided to change the mounting holes on this. Really limits what can be installed on these cards at the moment. And its not like they had to do this.
I doubt many companies will bother with bringing out cooler for this card considering its midbudget varient where people rarely try to improve the cooling ( read "spend extra money " :P ).

Manufacturers will make coolers for whatever is popular, and the GTX460 is popular

I was very disappointed with the mounting hole change as well on this card. It made my Thermalright HR-11 redundant to being used on this particular card. I had it all out and ready to use for when the card arrived. I yanked it from the box, got my screwdriver ready and DOH, it doesn't fit?!?!

Would a spitfire fit a Palit card with the g92 hole pattern? and if so would it be the best air cooling option for this card?

I have 2 galaxy cards in sli. My problem was that the fans on nr1 card brakes due to heat ? Anyways the lower card has a 80mm silent fan now and performs quite nicely. The upper card however was fitted with a 70mm fan as a 80x80x25mm thick fan wont fit in between the cards. My temperatures are really bad with the upper card maybe i should look into a custom watercooling solution. Ek wont cut it as the Galaxy is not a reference board. Anyways was thinking a Slim 80mm delta fan will sort out my heating issues .

Apart from Palit (and Gainward?) All other GTX460s are using the reference PCB. The only very minor change some manufacturers have made is the placement of the PCI-E power connections and DVI ports. Theres actually 2 reference configurations for the 1GB GTX460s, neither differ greatly from eachother and some manufacturers have combined what they percieve to be the most convenient layout based on both reference designs. For anyone wondering, this is the number you need to look for from the vBIOS on your card to know if its reference; 10410001.

this is what Thermalright responded after I've asked them about mounting HR-03 on gtx 460:

"Thanks for your mail and sorry for the late reply.
We are sorry that the GTX460 uses a special layout that we temporarily have no solution for it.
But if you have an Nvidia referenced GTX480, we strongly recommend you to use the Spitfire and the G2 ( for VRM part) to cool the GPU @ 66°C under Furmark 1.8 full load."

I've got another e-mail from Thermalright:

"Many thanks for your mail and support,
unfortunately we are still working on the cooler for GTX460,
HR-03 will be compatible once the new Bolt-Thru Kit for it is ready."

well Thermalright HR-03GT wont fit on Gainward gtx460 because it's slightly longer so it goes over the backplate (damn those custom PCB :), so I doubt that AC or anything else will fit either on Gainward or Palit

Damn, I was going to get one for my Palit. I knew it was going to be close.
Thanks for saving me some money. This card is so small I don't see any beefy cooler fitting on it.

You best ask Thermalright on that. Theres quite a few 460s that use different hole spacings. I'd like to get a new cooler for my KFA, stock is good, but fan is loud. More manufacturers should design 3rd party VGA coolers to take advantage of the fan header on graphics cards IMO.
