Why don't we have the Thanks feature like the TPU forums? I think it's a neat feature and much more useful than the post counts. Just wondering.

Do you remember why the staff disabled the thread rating system? Epic lulz that was when fanboys used the rating system to crap on threads.
I could see a similar situation for your idea. Even if it has good intentions.

Not too poop on the forum staff but I don't think I've ever seen a suggestion come to fruition.
This should imo be all about helping eachother as much as possible and share findings and so.
Postings should not happen, bcoz of a "thank you" count hunt.
If its not , why have it then, in the first place?.
Peace
Well, we cannot cancel every feature because fanboys may abuse it. I agree people should help other because they like the share the wisdom but would be good to be able to recognize these helpful individuals. I have been helped so many times in these forums and I'd love to have a way to show my appreciation. I think it tells a lot if a guy has 2000+ post and no thanks versus a guy with 500 posts and 200 thanks.
I've seen a few. Remember the in text ads or the animated favicon image? Thankfully those are both gone.
I agree with SamHughe, a thumbs up or a + rep feature would be nice and it's bundled in vBulletin already isn't it? I don't see how it would hurt, though I definitely could see how a thumbs down feature could be abused.
SOGOs > BOGOs
Ok, it can't hurt, but how does it help?
heres the real issue, why is there no reply button for PM's??? jesus just a forward button? or am i missing something? almost criminal!

How did you know?
I thought the "Don't bring suggestions to fruition" thread was only able to be seen by staff!
Seriously, what you have here is a bunch of volunteers(staff) who love the forum and give their time to try and help it.
I do admit that sometimes it may seem as if no one is listening but only seems that way.
BTW:I like this idea myself..

A good project with good goals.

I like the idea also, if it doesn't allow threads to be prioritized or anything unfairly then it doesn't really hurt. A simple +rep system is good; shows that a member posted something that others thought was helpful.
I've also used the "Thank you" feature on a number of forums, and it works well. In my opinion, there doesn't have to be a record of the number of thank-yous (except maybe in a user's profile). But it would be nice to have a button for thanking a user for posting some useful info or help

Honestly folks, it aint gonna happen. Around here, nothing gets done unless it's absolutely, completely and irreparably broken. It took a whole year and repeated pestering from me to get the forum rules updated when we removed Speak Freely, the "Reply" button in PMs hasn't been fixed since these forums were first set up, and even a simple redirect so that you don't have to type in "www" every time has been suggested about once a year on average for years now without anything changing.
