Talking My first time with DDR3 + Phenom II

    Hi guys,

I've got one Gigabyte 870A-UD3 to do a review and oc on air with X2 555BE from a team mate and an 2x1gb DDR3-1066 CL7 rams with D9JNL ic's. I am quite surprise with this mobo, so i decided to share the results here.

For 3d I use my crappy Zotac 8600GT GDDR2 (a piece of with 100% Sacon FZ caps, clock scales bad even with 1.61v on gpu, probably due to eletrical noise )

    First max clock try:

    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1307092

These sticks can do this clocks @ 6-5-6-18, but doesn't do any gains on pi...
Just silver theme and real-time priority, I don't know how to use copy waza...

    Will run pifast soon.

    3d benchs:

Aquamark and 3dm05 I run with 1.61v vgpu and 2.08v vram.
Will post link for review soon.

Sorry my bad english, this time I dont use google translator to help me...

    That ram is amazing.

    My GTS does 6-5-6 @ 1550-1575 and my Hyper does 6-5-6 @ 1450-1500.

    Try 6-5-5.

    6-5-5 FAIL
This ram is really amazing, all this needs is crank vdimm (~2.4v for 1720 6-5-6-18 1T ), run stable @ 1600 7-7-7-18 1T 1.74v with more relaxed sub-timmings ofc

Why is everybody crazy about PSC on AMD?
I'd rather run four sticks of D9 than two sticks of PSC/BBSE.

    It's more fun :P

Mine D9JNL scales well up to 2.4V (maximum of UD3 without mods ), AOD and Easytune 6 wont work here (and I dont know why...)

I am on air, Evercool Buffalo + Vizo Windstorm 92mm 110cfm, some rig pics:

ok, I tried d9jnl with athlon x2 240. It seems that my memory starts to degrade

with 6-5-5, 90ns, I was able boot 1780 though not very stable. I did ran maxmemm with 1750, unfortunately I didnt save any screen.

    Now I hardly run 1720

guess ours mem are much same in league

now im back with phenom and running PSC. I need give chance for d9jnl to run with phenom though I dont hold much hope.

I see you run heatsinks on mem, mine ran bare, probably thats why it degrades

    good luck

A pity your D9JNL sticks degrade, It seems to be an killer rams, you are using 2.4v on these too?
Ah, 6-5-5 won't work here, freeze on boot...

As I promissed in first post, here is the full review of GA-870A-UD3:

Yeah, from what I see all DDR3 D9 degrade kinda slowly, and all of it clocks well. Just gotta watch voltage, 2.4v is still a lot.

Apparently mine sticks won't degraded nothing, still can run @ 1720 6-5-6-18 1T 2.4v for bench and 1600 7-7-7-18 1T with about 1.74v (with more relaxed sub-timmings) rock-solid, but even with 2.4v it works cold...

    I'm using these ramsinks:
    http://www.nexustek.nl/NXS-nexus-hxr...tspreaders.htm

Really worth the $10 wich this cost.

    Let me bump this thread...

In August your team has doing an extreme overclocking reunion on your lab (OverLab, pics of reunion here), and the 870A-UD3 was used in LN2 more one time. (Xandelly run the 555BE of first post and a X6 1090T on LN2 in this board before) The initial goal was run 3dmark01 for August HWbot OC Challenge, but even @ 5.7ghz it freeze on bench...Apparentely the insulation on back of board was insuffient for -185ēC temps and that was the instability cause on 3dmark, so, the only things I do is max clock cpu-z validation and superpi 1m. That was my first time with xtreme cooling, my teammates help me a lot with this, teamwork

For this run I used a old batch X4 965BE (0941CPMW) which was never tested before even on air, one of my mates has bought this and never used...

    Rig: X4 965BE + GA-870A-UD3 + 2x1gb Micron Value DDR3-1066 D9JNL + GTX275 + HX1000 + Xandelly Monster Pot (100% Cooper )

    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1364629

    At least a sub-11s pi

    Rig and thermometer pics:

GA-870A-UD3 is a really amazing board...
    Gigabyte!

Wow, I really want to do LN2 so bad...but nobody in my area does. Cecil has 400+ points on HWBot but hasn't done subzero...(I live about 15 minutes from him)

LN2 for me just 1~2 times per year, OverLab is approx 260km (+/- 2 1/2 hours) from here and I still have to consider my vacation Otherwise I got to miss classes at the University ......

btw my situation still good, one of my team mates just have to come by plane (expensive $ $ $) because of the distance, look at this:

Looking at doing a build with this mobo and an X2 555 BE.
Been tearing up old components to make a homemade heatsink for the mosfets as the 870a-UD3 does not come stock with mosfet HS.

Noticed your 870a-UD3 looks to have a heatsink on it's mosfets... perhaps from another giggy board? From what I've read, the lack of mosfet hs is this board's biggest shortcoming.

I saw that your ram is using D9JNL ic's... could you post the name of the ram modules ? or suggest some modules with the same D9JNL ic's ?

In my city even dice is ubber expensive, it cost about R$13.00 per kg (aprox US$7.5 per kg ), so my old crappy (and miraculous ) Evercool Buffalo will still keep rocking here...

    1GB Micron Value DDR3 1066 CL7.
I can take a pic of the ram modules if you want, but they look like this:

    http://webrevolutionary.com/price/im...0459320880.jpg

Mine modules are single sided, 2x1gb kit and non-ecc.

The mosfet hs if I'm not mistaken my mate removed from a dead board, I will confirm this with he.

EDIT: I take proper pics of my rams:

These was used in LN2 session, the rams used on 555BE use same chips and oc capability is barely the same.

thanks... suppose it would just be the luck of the draw getting those same chips.. crazy that they run at those speeds with those timings

Nice! What's the power consumption of the NVIDIA 8600GT, does it clock down when idle?
