G.Skill Releases Ripjaws 48 GB DDR3-1900 MHz Memory Kit for Workstations

G.Skill International Co. Ltd., manufacturer of extreme performance memory and solid-state storage with solid quality, has today released the world's only hand-picked, hand-tested, ultra-high capacity DDR3 memory kit for workstations: 48GB (4GBx12) of 1,900MHz CL8 1.65V with G.Skill's popular Ripjaws series heatsink.

Designed exclusively for EVGA's best in class Super Record 2 (SR-2) motherboard, which features dual Intel Xeon LGA1366 CPU sockets and 12 DDR3 memory slots, G.Skill has been able to match its masterpiece of 48GB DDR3 precisely to this board, making it performance for performance-hungry workstation users. Furthermore, based on G.Skill lab's internal test results, advanced users capable of understanding sophisticated BIOS adjustments will be able to reach 2,000MHz CL8 with the G.Skill Ripjaws 48GB DDR3 kit.........

Question.... is 2P boards workstations..? I'd say small size server..

also; question.... Isnt ripjaw the entry level series from G.Skill??? How can this be ultra handpicked, ultra-tested ??? I'd be damned... Finally... Last time I checked; it is in G.Skills policy not to tell IC since its not same being used on a given model.... Therefore, how the hell can it be all this unique??? I dont get it, I am seriously feeling stupid here...

ram manufacturers will hand pick/text individual ICs, especially for high performance ram.
i bet all that they are doing for this is picking 12 sticks, testing them to make sure they all work fine, then sending them off.

i believe "Ripjaw" is g.skill's new high-end memory line... though this is the first enthusiast memory kit for servers i've ever seen.

kingston dose for FB ddr2 and they also do sodim but nothing like this.

In my long experience with ECC ram, its really not something needed by workstations...heck if I'm being honest it hardly helps with servers.

99.99% of the time a problem happens on a multi socket motherboard, ECC doesn't do a damn thing and the computer crashes same as any other. I've worked with dozens of Tyans, Supermicros, MSI's workstation eatx and blades, their reliability rarely improved with ecc mode enabled.

ive always though that the FB dimms were to much but basic ecc seams needed to me if u have things run 24/7 in ram. all of the people i know who build sql and exchange servers use ECC for everything that touches the databases. and ecc dose not lower performance or cost more, im not sure on how it overclocks with ddr2 or 3 but i ran ecc ddr1 and it went over 450mhz on 1st gen 1GB sticks so i dont see why not.

ECC isnt the problem when referring to FB-DIMM's, its the buffer chip and memory controller/north bridge pretty much.

I thought ECC has nothing to do with stability as such but more data integrity..?

    as far as I remember
Perfect storm & Pi = top line
Trident = Better price value, and still highend
    Ripjaw = entry level

you got me, ultra was on capacity, they used only on another word.... Point being, alot of big words being waved, and think you know that was the point, therefore not really any point in quoting that part

4GB sticks has been stuck in low speeds until recently, the 1,900MHz CL8 1.65V is raising the bar. This trend will hopefully effect the price on 2GB sticks.

I'm not sure if it is a good idea to have this much non-ECC RAM, but it may be different on a double-socket MB as other are stating. I'm wondering how/why ECC would be the same as non-ECC on double-socket MBs? ECC-sticks are still stuck in low-speeds and I'm looking for a good argument to forget them tho.

I dont think the price of 2GB sticks will be impacted that much, but I think 4GB sticks are becoming a new norm...

Makes sense that 4GB sticks will become the norm, not just because its bound to happen due to advances in tech in general over time, but also because Intel is pretty much dumping triple channel and people might be more comfortable with moving from 1366 with 3x2GB to Sandy Bridge if they have a nice selection of 2x4GB kits avalaible rather than being left with the choice between filling all 4 slots or reducing ram from 6 to 4GB.

That sounds very likely yes, but these populair "PSC" chips that has been severely promoted lately....
Story is a bit like with D9GTR/GTS and D9JNL/JMN.... Its not better, but decent, and a heck of alot cheaper, many people have interest in making it look good, and forget about what is really the best.

PSC is the new D9JNL, its good, not the best, but good - and alot cheaper :-)

Intel is going dual + quad channel, massive 16/32GB rigs in next year

Both Intel and AMD has taken strategic steps trough multi-Core. More cores needs more RAM to parallel access the memory chips. So the trend is clearly in favor for more RAM and more bandwidth, and that's where these high performance 4GB sticks comes handy.

DUal+ quad channels seems very promising, Wonder what the companys will bring out, 2x4gb kits? or 3x 4gb kits?? I'd love to be able to have atleast 12gb ram @ 2000mhz..

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

Curious, does anyone know if more RAM DIMMs or more RAM capacity is the factor that makes your IMC struggle to keep clocks high as you add RAM?
