XFX 5870XT Cant go beyond 900core

    Dear Fellow Xtremers..

I got an XFX 5870XT that wont go beyond 900core, I used MSI afterburner to overclock (and yes ive changed the CFG), I can apply settings at 1000/1300 but whenever I close afterburner it resets to 865/1300 (stock for my card)..

I tried flashing it to ASUS bios and surely I could now adjust the coreclock upto 1200core, but my secondary screen didnt respond at all, I could drags windows to it but I couldnt see anything, It was just black..
I tried several BIOS'es and ended up 'bricking' my card, I then had to disassemble my watercooling in order to move it to the second or third PCI-E slot and then use another PCI-E card to flash back to the original BIOS...

    Any Suggestions?
Its embarrassing to see it at 900/1300 when its watercooled..

    Kind Regards
    RackTheJipper from Denmark.

Ok i think i understand your problem, your using afterburner which lets you overclock but as soon as you close afterburner you go back to stock clocks? Well go to afterburner set the clocks you want then save the profile to say profile 1 , then go to settings - profiles then set the 2d and 3d profiles to your saved profile 1.
Give that a go should sort your problem.

Or, be a MAN and BIOS edit your clocks and never bother with software again

As long as you have a reference PCB on your HD5870 the best way is to flash in a New Bios with more voltages going to the Core and the Memory.

Then 1020/1325 is No problem in benching 3DMark06 and Vantage.

#1 Yes I have, it lets me increase voltage but the slider will just go back if I go above 900, if I remember correctly it wont let me overclock at all.. im using CCC to overclock atm

#2 Did what you said, didn't work either :-/

#3 I AM A MAN! As mentioned in the first post, I did flash and it bricked my card so I had to empty my loop, swap the cards and refill + leaktest, so alot of trouble from that..

#4 I did try to flash, to ASUS bios.. but my secondary screen wont work if I do so :-/

I used my iPhone to record a video and uploaded it on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xgzgf0hnVc

You may not be able to see it just yet as I just uploaded it right now... And turn up your volume or you might not be able to hear what im saying (whisperring)...
Sorry for the sturdy video and lousy accent, as said I used my iPhone and im Danish

EDIT: Okay I've encountered something weird.. its like every second time I open afterburner it applies the settings (940/1300).. Like if I open it it wont apply them, I close afterburner and open again and it applies them.. I close and open again and it wont... It also changes the saved profile, from 865/1300 to 940/1300..

Its unsurprising your having quirks to iron out. XFX aren't great when it comes to the vBIOS they use. My now partially retired HD4830s would always BSOD / kill monitor display if I tried OCing them in CF. My problems went away by finding a compatible vBIOS from a Asus card. You may have to do a similar thing.

I shot a second video of the so called "weird problem" ... Same as the first video youll have to wait till its finished processing (cause youtube is slow)..

#7 Well im not much for experimenting with bios'es, I dont want to 'brick' it again :-/ Its really a pain in the butt to disassemble my liquid cooling.. If I could just get the ASUS bios to work with dual monitors it would be fine.. but no no..

Nothing surprising with XFX. XFX were always weak on OC. You should be lucky if you OC you GPU 25 MHz more than default.

XFX even releases XXX models where the OC is just 25 MHz higher and considers it a good deal.

I don't understand the means of such threads.. You expect to OC the card higher than the XXX models - that's not going to happen.
